Well, it was the last studio recording he did, but "Do-Re-Mi" was recorded- I think- in his basement last. It's among my favorite Nirvana songs.

Are you saying that NIN's cover of Hurt was not as good as Johnny's original?
Because, if you are, then I am laughing really hard at you.

some blues music has that sad feeling like,
billy holiday gloomy sunday.
Sunday is gloomy,
My hours are sluraberless
Dearest the shadows
I live with are nuraberless
Little white flowers
Will never awaken you
Not where the black coaches
Sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thoughts
Of ever returning you
Wouldnt they be angry
If I thought of joining you?

Gloomy sunday

Gloomy is sunday,
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and i
Have decided to end it all
Soon therell be candles
And prayers that are said I know
But let them not weep
Let them know that Im glad to go
Death is no dream
For in death Im caressin you
With the last breath of my soul
Ill be blessin you

Gloomy sunday

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you asleep
In the deep of my heart here
Darling I hope
That my dream never haunted you
My heart is tellin you
How much I wanted you
Gloomy sunday

Names by Cat Power bums me out quite a bit.

His name was Perry
He had a learning difficulty
His father was a very mean man
His father burned his skin
His father send him to his death
He was ten years old
He was ten years old
He was ten years old

Her name was Naomi
Beautiful round face, so ashamed
Told me how to please a man
After school in the back of a bus
She was doing it every day
She was eleven years old
She was eleven years old
She was eleven years old

Her name was Sheryl
Black hair, like an electric space
She would pretty paint my face
She was a very good friend
Her father would come to her in the night
She was twelve years old
She was twelve years old
She was twelve years old

His name was Donovan
He was a very good friend
The carRAB were stacked against him
He was selling cocaine
The last time I saw him
He was thirteen years old
He was thirteen years old
He was thirteen years old

His name was Charles
He said he was in love with me
We were both fourteen
Then I had to move away
Then he begin to smoke crack
Then he had to sell ass
I don't know where he is
I don't know where they are

how did i know you would hate all them :), god i can read you like a book :D
not in a bad way or anything :), how can 'aerosmiths - dont want to miss a thing' not make you sad :(?

agreed, that is a rather sad song.. the first verison is by wesdneday and to me there verison even tho its theres is rather weak compared to the cover verison by Pearl Jam.. they make it gold.. its amazing i think it just might be the best cover song in history.. at least to me

I have to agree with most of the people that said Johnny Cash. A lot of his songs were so sad and depressing. The songs "I Hung My Head" and "Hurt" are so deeply emotional that it makes me want to cry when listening to him say the worRAB.

Another song that I think that is pretty sad (or maybe just haunting) is from one of my top 10s. It's the song called "My Mind's Eye" by Sirenia. Here is part of the lyrics.

If you are down
I will come to chain you to the ground
And penetrate your mind.
If you are lost *if only you are lost*
I'll be there to break your trust
And ravage all your lust for life, my love
You will never realize
What darkness lies inside
inside my mind.

Sweet Jane - remake by the Cowboy Junkies
Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
May it Be - Enya
Lightning Crashes - Live
I'll Be There - The Escape Club
Imagine - John Lennon
No One is to Blame - Howard Jones
Fire and Rain - James Taylor
Coyotes - Don EdwarRAB

Huh? I said that? Oh, confused the lyrics...I stand by my original point that the album as a whole is cheerful more often than not, and the first album entirely so.
