The Runaways

The film cost $10 million to make (not including marketing, aRAB, commercials, etc). That's a very small budget by Hollywood standarRAB. But the overall profit was horrific. Internationally, the film did even worse, making only (so far) around $74,000!

One of the problems was that they made a movie about a band that really wasn't that well known - especially 30+ years later. So despite a heavy marketing blitz, the interest just wasn't there. I still plan on renting it. :)

Only if you have a region free player. USA & Canadian DVRAB are Region 1. UK DVRAB are Region 2.

ahh to stay on the safe side I'll order it when it's out over here then :)

Also I have no money at the moment. currently job hunting again! :(

Another problem is writing out Micki Steele! I know she wasn't in for long, but I'm a massive Bangles fan, and would have like to have seen a bit of her in the Runaways.

...I saw the real Runaway's in 78' at the Newcastle City Hall - and other than they were fairly young and (obviously) all girls there wasn't anything particular revolutionary about them ....I can't see that any movie would be particulary engrossing!

The Runaways - dramatised account of the formation and career of the US all-girl rock band.

It's a small, low budget indie movie rather than a big, in-your-face hollywood biopic. And though it has it's moments, it's a rather muted, and often cliched affair.

The biggest shock for me was Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie...that cute little blonde girl from Signs, War Of The WorlRAB and Man On Fire as a hard drinking, coke-snorting, rock bitch, sporting skimpy basques, fishnets and knickers on stage...it's quite a shock...ooooeeeerrr missus!

But it's actually a decent performance from her, and Kirsten Stewart as Joan Jett does pretty well too.

Mention should also be made of Mike Shannon as Kim Fowley...Fowley was a hugely influential, flamboyant and somewhat eccentric music producer in the 70's, and Shannon perfectly captures his captivating presence and downright weirdness.

It was Abigail Breslin in 'Signs' rather than Dakota Fanning. But it will be great seeing the same cutie from "Cat in the Hat" and "Uptown Girls" now playing a druggie rockstar!! I love Dakota Fanning, she's great. I love everything she's been in so I can't wait for this. :)

I saw this via a leaked screener and thought it was great. Am really annoyed it wasn't released in UK cinemas, even though I can see why from a commercial point of view. Found it a really interesting film. Dakota Fanning was incredible as Cherie Currie and I wasn't really a fan previously.

A few people wanted this film. It's due to open on Friday. I saw a trailer for it today and wasn't blown away by it. It actually looked like a film that would appeal to girls more than guys IMO.

It came out on DVD in the US in July. I was on holiday there at the time so I was really lucky and got it then. Maybe if it's not too expensive to import, people who can't see it in the cinema could by the DVD from America.

Just seen the film, thought it was very good overall. As its based on real events some of it was a little unsatisfying though.

Both Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning's aciting was on top form, and I've not been a fan of either of them previously. Kristin seemed to completly embody Joan Jett. The music was spot on too.
