Hi all,

I have got a hiatus hernia (been diagnosed from a recent gastroscopy). Main symptoms are:

Throat Burning (fairly mild, not particularly acute but does tend to last for hours or days with little relief from gaviscon etc)

Sinus drainage (again better or worse at different times. Pretty yukky yellow in colour and never ending)

Burping/Belching (tenRAB to happen more when I am experiencing other symptoms, not sure whether this is cause or effect)

Throat clearing.

I have been on pantoprazole (40mg) in the morning since middle of Sept. As I have said, my symptoms tend to come and go, with one week being quite bad and then others with little or very mild symptoms. I have read that this can take quite a long time to heal but wondering if other people have the same rollercoaster ride of ups and downs as I do?

Yes. I started PPI at end of October...and was doing much better. Then, I got a wicked cold...which seemed to bring on LPR symptoms again. I have now increased PPI dosage to (Achiphex 40mg daily) and I'm hoping it will help. I also have good times and bad throughout the day.

For many people with LPR sypmtoms, it often takes taking PPI's twice a day to help.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have at times been taking the PPI's twice a day but to be honest I noticed little difference. I am really at my wit's end with this. Feel all gunky in my throat, a little burning, and full of mucous in my sinuses!

Thinking of trying Pepcid2 for a couple of days and stopping the pantroprazole.

i am on the roller coaster with you too, i wish you the best....this is such a frustrating disease/whatever it is and i find very little relief taking prilosec 2 x a day, i guess i shall have to attempt nexium...again, i have so many of the same symptoms you talk of. The thing is, i haven't had a no symptom day in nearly 3 months....relentless.

It is a relentless disease, I am almost feeling claustrophobic about it. Have definitely realised the connection between my burping and my pain. Had a really bad day today (that will serve me right for taking my PPI) and I burp everytime I get up from sitting down!!

Feeling pretty down about it at the moment although it is of some comfort to know that I am not alone!
