In our culture, we are constantly surrounded by noise and distraction. When we drive, we listen to the radio or even watch tv/movies. At home, the tv is on, the radio is on, we have our phones and our computers. When we wake up, we wake up to alarms, music, phones. When we go to bed, we often fall asleep with tvs or radios on. Sitting in doctors offices, we have magazines, books, and music to entertain us.
Do you believe silence with no distractions is important to our mental and physical health? Do you believe we should make more of an effort to "tune" everything out at some points in the day and just sit quietly, letting our minds rest and digest the information received that day? What kind of impact do you think this would have on mental health issues, such as depression. What about physical activies such as hyperactivity? Im not saying prayer or meditiation, but just..silence. Sometimes driving down the road I turn the radio off and just listen to the wind, and..its so refreshing.
Im curious as to what others think on this.
