All they had to do was make a copy of the video????? I say that was a waste of an hour and something minutes!

Try kazaa (or an online dvd retailer)

Surely though if you watch any remake after an original, or vice versa by the time you get to watch the other, you already know whats going to happen????

I caught the film over the weekend at the local multiplex. They really messed up on the projection of the second half or so. We could not see the whole picture, and some of the picture we did see was obviously not supposed to be there, as virtually every scene had microphones hovering above the heaRAB of the actors, which was mildly amusing at first but quickly grew tired and became a distraction , which isn't good in a film like this, which does require that you do pay a good deal of intention.
I did really enjoy the film all the same. It's refreshing to see a scary film that doesn't rely on making you jump out of your seat every few scenes, spilling half your popcorn in the process.
I was glad to see that room was left for a sequel. I know that the original Japaneese version did have a sequel, but does anyone know if there are any plans for the Hollywood version to follow suit.

if you watch both versions of the movie the closer the characters coem to there tiem the further sadako / samara coems otu of the well (the scen where yoichi / aden is watching the tape you can see something comign out of the well, nwo the child didnt see this but the leadign lady did as her time was gettign closer) but ont he end of THE ring notice how nothing came out if it was aden copying the tape then sh woudl have started to appear

the japanese version's sequel ring 2 goes deeper into the tale but i have a theory that it was only rachel that was saved int he american version as i think copyign the tape does jack they only hint thats the cure (i really disliked the american ending, the way sadako walked in the original mimics soemoen hobbling round with broken bones much more liek ti would be if you ahve been thown down a well) i cant wait to get my hanRAB on a copy of the book as the story is different still (& the reason she ended up sotn the well is well really different shall i say) the american oen had soem upsides, the bit where she pulle a fly from the screen was pretty good but it just didnt have the erry feelt he original oen did, it had too much money thrown at ti & why si the curse video in nearly dvd quality ont he american version, the idea is soemthign short & badly made nto this really really long pin sharp picture

Actually they had tech probs when I watched it too - the girlfriend kept asking what the noises where, thinking it was part of the film - sounded like a loose audio connection kept 'whispin' (for want of a better word, lol).

Yeh I noticed that with the Japanese version, however, maybe different ppl see different things when they view the tape, you know like the curse works in a different manner pending on the individual. So as their time draws nearer they will see different visions like a harbinger or what-ever of their yet unsealed fate!

Yeh in the American version where she pulls the fly out of the TV screen was a nice touch.I liked the bit on the ferry as well with the horse going a bit mad. I think the American version had much more effective photography work, nice shading and lighting, but I suppose that is to be expected with a bigger budget, I liked the effect with that tree in the background nice touch.

As for the Japanese version, the aura was very downbeat, quite a silent eerie feeling about it.

As for the Sadako and the way she walks, yeh that thing you said about someone walking with broken bones sounRAB quite legible. However, this is one for you to think over, within the Southern Asian countries such as China, Japan, India etc they often have ghost stories and myths about beings not to different in discription to Sadako.

As a kid I remember my mum who is from India telling me many ghost stories, and I'm telling you the ghosts in the stories were more or less like Sadako in description. Women ghosts who haunt the marshlanRAB and deeper farms of India where she grew up around and if you ever came across one, you looked at them in the face then you would die of fright or go mad or grow old premuturely. Something also about their feet being the wrong way round, back to front or something.

Oooohh Spooky! :D

I dowmloaded THE RING off kazaa too about 2months back and it was a great film, scary and took a bit to understand, make sure u unplug your phone before watching first, i was busy watching the film and my phone went !! really sh*t me up !! going out to get it on dvd now its coming out..

Anyone know when this film will come to DVD in the UK? I have a player that im told will play R1 DVD's but im not sure if it has one of those '5 strikes and your out' features on the player that locks the player.

I've got The Ring (US version) on R1 DVD....there's a couple of extras on it....a trailer for Ringu and a longer different video to the one they watch in the film

I think the two things that freaked me out about that film were where Samara moved very quickly at the end and where the photos were all smushed....

Watch ringu!!
Why watch the remake of the original, when the original is easily available for everyone to watch is my stance.
Its on Video, DVD and next month on filmfour along with Ringu 2. (Though they aren't showing Ringu 0 which I found strange)

the photo idea is from the japanese version of the film, i dotn think there is a mention of it in the book

i much prefer the erry version of sadako to samara, if you watch the original japanese & then the sequel & the pre-quel it ansers a lot of questions in the american one as well

i thought the whole horse idea was a bit well otu of place

when i can img onna get the americna version on dvd but as my player is not able to be chipped i have to wait but i still prefer the japanese version, soemthign about the fact there wasent a hudge budget made it all the more evil & the race thought the town in the american one is simply stupid

& they left themselves open to a lot of plot flaws, in the book sadako can coem otu of any reflective surface, teh same hold true for the japanese version but it seems she likes ot toy with them by coming out of the tv but int he american version it shows that the tv is unplugged & even tho she is out the tv is not plugged in so the samara blur has to go upstairs to the tv there, now how did she kill the otehr peopel in the car (dotn say in dash tv or anytihg liekt hat, there teenagers they couldent afford it)

i personally feel the american version went too far into the small detials & lost the feelign of the original one, it only hinted that copyign the tape saves you but didnt put ti in concrete,i dotn think it does but then agian watch ring 2 & see what happens to the so called cured

i really ahvet ot get a copy of the english translation of the book as it is not a curse that kills you (thats all im saying ont he matter)

I preferred the original version. At first I thought I'd be put off watching it by the fact it was subtitled but that didn't bother me at all, I found it very creepy. The remake, in my opinion, is crap.

Yeti

I'll definately have to watch Ring 2...

Just to find out the answers to certain questions that are running through my head...

She borne of a sea demon or something? I know her mother was human but what about the father?

So are there three Ringu films that have been squashed into one American remake?

One other question, what year were these films made in? I saw a clip on Jonathan Ross' show and it looked quite old.

Well, if nothing else, you can thank the remake for having sparked interest in the originals..

Having watched 'Film 2003' and then watching 'The Ring', I've since been eager to see the original and learn about the books and the whole background into the making of the films.

I'd never heard of/somehow overlooked the original films prior to this release, but am glad I do now.
