I know it may be a bit naughty asking this, but now that The Ring is on DVD in the US are there any DivX DVD rips floating on the net? As i have said before im not sure if my player can play Region-1.

If this is a bit naughty to ask then perhaps people can PM me with the answer.

Having watched 'The Ring' last night, I'm looking forward to it's DVD release hoping it'll be given the special features it deserves (hopefully inclusive of a commentary).

Does anyone know of any additional material shot during the shooting for DVD use? Also, has anyone seen any/all three of the originals?

Downloading it now on eDonkey. 60 hours and counting

Just an idea tho. I have a PC DVD-ROM drive which as yet hasnt had its 5 region changes. So would it be possible to buy the R1 DVD then put it in the DVD-ROM drive and somehow convert the VOB files into files ready for putting onto VCD's?

Listening to Radio 5 on the way home from work this evening and they had the movie review on, the guy who does it is very good - doesn't hold back on what he thinks about a movie.

He said this was a rather mediocre film and not half as good or scary as the original Japanese film that its a remake of (which is a remake of a Japanese TV programme which is in turn adapted from some books!)

He suggested checking out the Japanese version first (Ringu and Ringu 2)

A lady at work watched an advanced screening of The Ring last week, she said it was geniunely creepy and frightening. Said it was a very effective remake and said that it was one of the most unsettling films she had seen in a while.

SounRAB good to me, but yeah reviews seem to be differing from one source to another. Looks like one of them films you either like it or you don't...

i went to see it today, it is gripping and tense. It is well worth going to see, the story line moves at a steady pace and keeps you guessing at the plot and the mystery that surrounRAB it.

To be honest i wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. It has some disturbing scenes in it and is more of a psychological thriller than an all out slash type horror movie.

I think it genuinely will scare some people and i would recommend people going to see it they won't be disappointed.

you can get all 3 of the original japanese ring filsm on dvd from amazon

if you watch the original japanese version & then rign 2 immediately after (gotta love dvd changers) the place of the tape makes sense

im not goignt o give ti away as it wouldent be right

but yea the original is fantastic

Watched The Ring on Sunday, I have to say that in certain aspects it was superior to the Japanese version, but it wasn't as effective as I was expecting it to be.

7 out of 10 cos it was genuinely creepy in parts and it kept me awake at night!

Last 15 minutes were a bit dissapointing though, the Japanese version in the last quarter of the movie was a much more dread filled and nail biting experience.

they way i put it in another forum is the japanese movie is a slow burn, scaring you slowly & bit by bit untilt he last bit but the american film is your typical horror, lots of short sharp shocks

but every person who has seen rihg or the ring has mostly prefered the first versiont hey saw (you really really gotta see all 3 of the japanese originals)

& there releasignt he english translation of the book that started it all off (the story is totally different int he book)

I heard Samara when she lurches out of the TV screen at the end is played by Liv Tyler...

I have only seen Ring from the Japanese entries into the Saga, it was creepy! Yeh real slow burning kind of terror, not seen the other installments in the Ring series but word has it that they are a pretty mixed bag affair.

As for the USA version, if they hadn't tone down the last 15 minutes it would have been a solid chiller. I liked the photography work and scenary came across as quite doom laden and dreary. Pretty good I suppose. I understand that USA sequel will go in a different direction to it's Japanese counterpart, should be interesting...

;717359']If you have a multi-region DVD player, you may be interested to know that the American (Region 1) DVD of The Ring is out tomorrow, you can get it from CD-Wow for

I enjoyed the film also after seeing it at the weekend!

Still some things were left unclear, like where did the video come from??

Why did the horses drown?

I was a little bit drunk when I watched it, can someone help clear the fog for me??

one thing i find funny is that in the american version the kid aitn saved by copying the tape

as in both versions the closer to your dealine the further sadako / samara comes otu of the well but watch the end scen of the americaa verson agian

i still prefer the japanese version simply as it does nto seem scary but all fo a sudden all of the terror int he films smacks you in the face & the end scene is a lot better doen in the japanese

happymonkey, I think the story is a tread with caution type fable for the tabloid media. Be careful for the story that you are so eager to uncover, may lead you to situations of extreme strife!

Ehem, well that's the way I would intepret it anyway, basically don't go sticking your nose into business that doesn't concern you.

I have no idea how that videotape came to fruition though, pretty strange stuff, still not seen the Hollywood remake. However, Sadako from the Japanese version gives me the creeps!

Yeh my thoughts exactly, in the USA version when Samara came out the TV screen the whole thing just seemed to finish, it was like they watered it down.

The Japanese version though, when Sadako emerges out the TV screen first time you watch it and you are not expecting that to happen it just catches you off guard!

It is creepy as hell in particular her eye and the way she walks when she emerges out of the well and towarRAB the TV screen.

Spooky!

The comment I heard on the radio is to watch Ringu first - watching The Ring first gives the game away.

Anyone know where I can get Ringu from?
