THE RING: Do not read this thread if you are going to watch this film

Do not read on if you intend to watch THE RING because it may spoil it for you.

Why did the Rachel Keller character not die and why did she have to make another copy of the tape? I had to go to the toilet during the film (I knew I shouldn't have got a LARGE coke) and I think I might of missed a vital part of the story.

BTW it scared the sh!t out of me.

Thanks in advance and I apologise for being a weak bladderd thick sh!t.

***spoiler aswell****

rachel made a copy of the tape therefore she didn't die, noah dies because he didn't make a copy, she realises this and therefore makes her son make a copy so he doesn't die. You see her helping him push the tape in and push the right buttons etc but its him actually doing it, so that he is making the copy.

hope that makes some sense. :D

Which screws up any possibility of a remake of Ring 2, since it requires that "Kid" (Whatever his American name is) didn't actually make the copy... (Or at least that's how I figured it went!)

I was suprised that the kid couldn't work the thing himself - he's a kid isn't he? They are usually more clued-up then adults when it comes to stuff like video recorders. lol :D

woah...i just got back from seeing this film...and yes it did pretyt much scare the sh*t out of me as well....well creeped me out anyway.

That scene with the dead girl near the beginning and mangled face the ENTIRE audience went AHH and gasped, and there was a short pause of silence, followed by some VERY nervous and relief laughter!

What was the relevance of the card trick when she went to visit the camp for the first time?

That was a stroke of luck finding that photo of the lighthouse in the library, taken from exactly the same position as the video!

Also I have noticed this a lot in recent films.....

Plot MUST include a scene that rules any use of a mobile phone as this may hinder flow of narrative.

It's usually a flat battery, although in this case it was bad reception

btw, didn't think it was THAT scarey. No more so than recent 'spooky' flicks like Sixth Sense, The Others etc.. all the usual hype and at the end of teh day it's 'just another hollwood horror flick', nothing special.

You take them as you find them so I suppose it's each to there own as far as how much you enjoy a film. I'm not one that would normaly go to the cinema watch a horror flick but when I went to watch The Ring I really did enjoy it. I think the last horror pic I saw that I enjoyed was.....errrm errrm King Kong when I was 8.

For you people who liked the film, you can get it now from DVDBoxoffice.com... and while your there, why not get ringu.. the original japanese version of the film.

And for those wondering about a sequal, the Japs managed to get two, so I guess there is still plenty to be remade into a hollywood version.

I doubt Hollywood would be interested in remaking any of the sequels as they're both pretty dire.
Anyway, why is there so much talk everywhere of American remakes of foreign films? What's so wrong with the original versions, or does America just have a bug up it's arse about other countries making successful films.
Everytime I hire a foreign movie from my local video shop, the person behind the counter says to me "it's subtitled mind", as if to warn me. This got on my nerves so much that I asked her why she had to tell me, as I could see from the cover that it's a foreign film. Her reply was that people hire out films then bring them back complaining that it was subtitled and they couldn't possibly read the dialogue and watch the film at the same time.
What kind of people are they? The same kind of people that return films because they have black lines on the top and bottom, I guess. Now every foreign film in the shop has a big yellow sticker on the cover stating that it's subtitled.
A few months ago I sent my boyfriend to hire out an 18 rated film called 'Audition', apparently the previous person who'd hired it, brought it back complaining that it was a disgusting film and had disturbed her.
Is it just my town or...

there are actually 3 japanese versions

ring
ring 2
ring 0

ring & ring 2 were both shot by the same director but ring 0 came later shot by a totally different director & crew so it has a different feel to it (it is ment as a prequel to ring & rign 2, the story of sadaco, its worth a watch) i got all of mine from amazon.co.uk & got a rather noce surprise when they were delivered on region 0 discs. The japanese verion is far superior (saying that, first tiem i watched ring was when it was on ch4 at 2am & i was sat alone inthe dark trying to finish coursework)

the american one is definately nto a patch on the japanese version

i taped audition off the freeview weekend of film four extreme & i still ahvent finished watching it, it does get painful to watch

but then agian the cover of the dvd has a japanese woman wearing chemical safe gloves & a bloody big needle so what do you expect) takeshi mikke (i think thats how you spell it) is a fantastic director tho

if you want i can type up the intro given to the movie from film four extreme, its pretty interesting

ps, dubbing should die, movies like ring & audition & then on the other end of the scale taxi & les visitrues (french comedys) would nto be the same dubbed but with american movies & video hire they cater for the lowest common denominator, no need to think big explosions or smily teen movies were the poor down trodden person alwasy comes up smellign of roses

there releasign the novel in english

yes the book that started it, there is more information here http://ringworld.somrux.com/ seems the only place takign advanced orders is barnes & noble in american tho so we will ahve to wait & see when it hits british shores

there were also soem other movies based on the novel that we never got over here (its obvious i ahve insomnia aitn it)

i have seen all the japenese versions but not yet the american version.

i have never been one to worry about spoilers in fact lol in many film and soap opera forums i work on i leave spoilers myself.

is this version (american ) available for download anywhere ?

and if so what media software will i need to view it.

i attempted to download it before but neither real player or windows media player 9 would play the film.

if you have a molti-region dvd player then you can buy it from most online retailers

& downlaodign movies is naughty (the only film on my hard drive is bowlign for coloubmine but i have the pre-order for that in anyway)

Actually I thought that she didn't die because she made a copy and someone else watched it (her son), that's why at the end of the film Aidan (Rachels son) asks what will happen to the person who they show the tape to. This means that the tape is more likely to continue to be watched rather than making a copy and dumping it in a river or something, as long as the next person who watches it can work it out.

It also poses a moral dilema, to live you must show someone else your copy of the video but you know fall well that that person may die because of you. Who would you show it to, a friend, a work colleague or a complete stranger?

That scene had the same effect on the audience when I saw it too - I don't think a single person didn't jump at that bit! VERY creepy but brilliantly done - it just comes completely out of the blue and catches you off guard, like the 'emerging from the TV' scene - horrible.

Anyway the point of me resurrecting this thread was to ask if anyone knew of a release date for the DVD... I appreciate it'll be a while away, I just don't want to splash out on the Japanese version to then have the US version released soon after!! Thanks in advance to anyone who knows...
