The return of Adult Animation?

Coraline wasn't handle by Tim Burton, just some people that worked on it. So I think that counts as a Non-Tim Burton film. Also, nice use of purple text thar.

Who knows, I think mainstream american audiences just want to see happier upbeat films these days. They don't want a movie they leave feeling down or disturbed by. And a lot of the reason Coraline grossed as much as it did was because it was in 3D theaters and 3D tickets are expensive as hell. That's not saying it was a hit only because of that, but it would have easily made 20-25 million less if in 2D and that's if people would still see it without the 3D gimmick. Look at My Bloody Valentine 3D, that film grossed 55 million. Without being in 3D that film would have been lucky to make 15 million.

Actually that's just a misunderstanding because of advertising saying that it was from the director of TNBC, which apparently nobody knew who the other one besides Burton was.

The Saw movies somehow still make money, though.

Saw is a slasher franchise basically now. Each movie seems to progressively make less than the other now. I predict the newest Saw next fall will fall below $50 million. It's a shock though how these movies continually have been being released since 2004 with the SAME plot in almost every movie and have been making money.
