The Restaurant 2009

The thing is that as someone mentioned the programme makers should have just been honest in show one and explained that everything had changed ... ie 'this series, it's a new idea, we are looking for a workable profit making high street concept ... it's about all the skills not just cooking etc ..' I think then, viewers would have been more open to why partnerships like the Winkers have done better than would be ordinarily expected. The show has done the worst thing possible though, it's changed it's format and dumbed down to little more than a game show, while trying to pretend it's still the same as the last two years when we all know it's not. Bascially it's just confused and disappointed the viewers.

I imagine that from the start the Winkers have been edited in such a way to send them on a 'journey' to the final and all the others to justify their departures. There is prob very little truth in what we've seen this series.

I don't doubt that JJ and James have what it takes to create a good high street chain, but I'm not sure they have the commitment to see it through. I can't see JJ sustaining however many months of intense training with RB, he's too keen to get back to his cocktails and exciting lifestyle. And would he really be happy in a kitchen? No, I give him a couple of months and he'll be back front of house, running the bar and dreaming up new ideas, leaving the kitchen in the hanRAB of a more capable chef .... so what's the point really? :(

True they never gave up, but if I were in his position, with the biggest challenge of my life imminent in an area in which I was not well schooled, I would have read the recipe over and over and practically digested it in an attempt to be as prepared as I possibly could be. He knew what he had to make in advance, it wasn't as if the recipe was just tossed in front of his nose at the last minute for him to read quickly.

Having said that, what I see as carelessness seems to have been rewarded, so maybe trying your best to get it right the first time just doesn't matter and alcohol is the answer!

I agree. Professional Masterchef has just finished having been stretched from 4 to 6 weeks and the final with the last 3 from 2 programmes to 5. Now The Restaurant gets the reverse treatment with only one hour to watch before the decision on who goes next.:(

Why didn't the girls cook some fish, break it up and offer a taster with toothpicks? Nobody is going to ask them to cook at a Farmers Market without at least smelling it cooking first.

I did not edit your post to facilitate hositility, I did so because indiscriminate quotes clutter up and slow down the website and leave room for miscontruing what is being responded to. I was responding only to the part that I quoted.

I felt, and still feel, so sorry for the other contestants - it wasn't their fault that most of them were never fit for such a competition, most of them shed blood, sweat and tears during the process, it wasn't "only a TV programme" to them. Moving the goal posts at the very end was a disgraceful thing to do.

I'm sorry I upset you {{{Muttley}}}. I am never hostile to individuals, it was the dismissive comment that hit a nerve.
