The Restaurant 2009

I'm sure this thread will run and run for many days yet, a good read as always!

Can I just express my thanks to Buck, who at least made watching the programme bearable. Buck's critiques were always spot on! And an honourable mention for Bibendum for a very funny post!

I look forward to RB's justification on his blog for this disaster. The silence is deafening...

Either the Beeb or Blanc has lost the plot. What a travesty when a great concept is reduced to this.

I have lost all respect for RB. I lost all respect for the Beeb long ago.

There is no such thing as honour in UK. Money is all that matters, however it is obtained.

Shame on you BBC, but most of all shame on you Raymond Blanc. You have sold yourself short.

I was intending a treat for myself and daughter at MQS. Not now. I would not be seen dead there.
Not that you care, RB as you now earn through the BBC. I am only surprised there is no voting at premium rate.

SenRAB out a great signal to any youth watching the show...lie, blag, bullshit and don't put yourselves out too much and that'll win you prizes. Graft and you'll get kicked in the balls

Can't find a link, so I am going to type the letters which were printed in the Sunday Times out.

"What a farce The Restaurant turned out to be: a shallow pair, neither of whom could cook, made the final. Raymond Blanc should not be associating himself with this kind of presentation."

"I couldn't believe the winner cheated. I immediately rang my sister who said exactly the same as me: we will never watch this again."

"I never realised that you do not need to have any cooking skills to run a restaurant. What an absolute joke The Restaurant was. Shame on you Mr Blanc."

"Shame on you Raymond Blanc."

"I cannot imagine why he wants to associate himself with these no-hopers."

For me this has already happened in this series! I just can't believe some of the things Raymond has said and done in this series - almost shocked on occasions!

I know obviously there have been cut backs across the board at the Beeb, but in spite of this I still feel that they could have made a success of this series by making it a more serious competition, by selecting couples who had a genuine chance of running a business, and more analysis and reflection on why a particular service has gone badly - I don't really see where any couple in this series would have actually learnt much from Raymond? There have been too many joke couples who you wouldn't trust to do your shopping, nevermind a restaurant - I would like to know who oversaw selection for this series, they should be 'fired'.

What we've ended up with is a series that is neither one thing nor the other, that is unlikely to satisfy any portion of The Restaurant's previous audience. A real shame, because this may end up being the last series if the ratings are poor, and you just know that some odd-bod at the Beeb will come on and say 'well, the ratings weren't good so we've canned it", without realising they are to blame for the poor ratings in the first place - don't you want people to watch BBC2?

Wish they wouldn't show so much of the next episode at the start it shows people who can't have been kicked out. How is The Front Room woman going to cope ? She doesn't seem to like any food and doesn't want to do tasks. Their food is too home food it neeRAB to be home food but done for a restaurant and I don't think they have enough experiences of restaurants

I'm so glad I am not the only one totally bemused as to how these are the three best couples they could find. All three are truly awful, the sort of people who are put on these shows for us to laugh at and watch go out early.

I popped in here to see who went out this week and by the posts am so glad I gave up watching a couple of weeks ago. What a shame the show has gone from wonderful to ridiculous in a year.
