The Restaurant 2009

I'm so disappointed in this 3rd series - no wonder the ratings didn't even reach 1m.

The couples all seemed highly uninspiring from the off, and the winners came across as a pair of posh wide boys to whom food was a mere sideline to their passion for pretty coloured beverages.

Just embarrassing really.

I put it down to

a) Bad casting. This lot are all just clowns! Nel from last year wouldn't have had this kind of rubbish going on. There were plenty of decent couples last year. And Tatty and Gimpy!

b) One show per week. It's condensed down into pretty much nothing. We don't even get RB politely telling people off at the end of the show any more! I miss the Wednesday restaurant and Thursday challenge format.

That's why I think it was a done deal before the show was even recorded. This was nothing but a PR exercise and for the life of me cannot imagine that JJ and James would have even entered the competition in the first place.

I agree. Before The Restaurant last year, I would have watched this programme with interest. I love cooking and had a high opinion of RB. But as soon as the adverts started, I realised I have lost all respect for him now, so I won't be watching.

Thanks for your write ups Buck, love them!

I think JJ will win for the 'concept' not for their abilities in the kitchen.

I liked Bodger and Badger the best this series.

Most cringe worthy moment was the stupid woman trying to open a coconut with Raymond's best chef knives and I did feel a pang for Steven last week.

Thanks for that, Straker. I just keep thinking that if only Chris had had a decent FoH from the start there might have been a different and credible outcome.

I gather from some of the posts on the BBC's message boarRAB that people are starting to complain officially to the BBC rather than just post their disquiet on message boarRAB. The sense of unease about this all being something of a set up allied with the fact that the Winkers had an existing drinks/catering business is growing

Blanc's blog and Twitter still continues to be strikingly silent

What a joke! I wouldn't trust that weak-chinned gormless twit to get beans on toast right, let alone run a restaurant. And if that's the standard of Blanc's staff, I'll definitely give any of his restaurants a miss - I'd be fuming if I was handed a martini instead of what I'd actually ordered. I only assume he picked them because he's French and thus a bit of a snob, and went for public school credentials and floppy blond hair over any discernible talent or indeed charm.
