The Restaurant 2009

I think that the way this series was edited was probably quite flawed as well. I can't help but think they saw how popular tatboy and gimpy were and decided to try and recreate that through the winkers. It didn't work for a whole range of reasons, mainly because it FELT contrived i think. Also James was a damn good chef and Alasdair was honest and improved so much through the series.

Cocktails were always part of it ever since the first episode when they served up their signature dish .... with a cocktail glass of cider accompaniment.

I don't think the ranters on here go out much, so I don't expect M Blanc, JJ or James will lose any sleep over you going to Whetherspoons (sic), whether you watch the show again, whatever the weather.

Very true mutter and so sad. What a shame though that RB and the BBC would agree to such a sham and fiasco and insult so many viewers as well as the thousanRAB of honest, decent good chefs who applied . I thought of all the celeb chefs RB had some integrity, as i also thought this Sarah person had.

Ha yes! But in previous series he has taken care to make sure veggie dishes are up to scratch, takes such pride in his own herb/veggie garden etc so I would have thought he would have respected this 'mainly veggie concept' in a restaurant. Clearly not.

I don't understand how Chris fell at the last hurdle? He did amazingly in the final compared to JJ?

Having just read the statement I feel quite protective on behalf of Chris and Nathan. RB makes it sound like they had no chance from the start, that he would never have been able to work with them because they were too young, too immature etc ... Well in that case why not close their restaurant the week before last and keep Steven and Rebecca instead ... ? Or close their restaurant weeks ago if they were such no hopers ... ?

True enough - I didn't think Nathan had a chance after his being filmed giving the finger to a customer, albeit behind their back, and it's a measure of how the series has degraded from its previous incarnation that I didn't myself feel that Chris had been shown to really prove himself, not in the way that previous contestants had been put through the mill.

Let's face it, the continued survival of the winkers had caused jaws to bounce up and down like yo-yos throughout the series and it was fairly clear from about week 4 that if they could survive that far that they were likely for the final.

I just feel that I was sold a pup, if Ray and his kitchen bitches wanted to skew the show so that the winners were the ones where concept = what was most likely to turn them a profit rather than being a sincere expression of someones culinary vision they should have admitted this from the start and I for one wouldn't have blamed them. Maybe it's just those of us who have followed the show from the start who have the problem with this decision.

Does anyone know when they usually start advertising for contestants for the new series? i wonder how couples who may have been interested in applying will have reacted to the result.
