The Restaurant 2009

Bodger and Gorilla really were good this week, but Gorilla neeRAB to know his menu a bit better. "Melon and Parma Ham".. Two ingredients, simples? "Pineapple and parmesan"... the actual opening night was better though.

Did anyone else catch James' reference to wanting to be on a desert island with a tall leggy blonde, and think that JJ is tall and blonde. I can't comment on his legs though. :)

From an entertainment standpoint I'm glad the winkers stayed, although there's no way I'd want to invest in them. The girls were pretty hopeless, so it wasn't a totally wrong choice.
 
...how can those two idiots have got through to the final when they failed to get anyone for their "cookery school" and weren`t the slightest bit put out about it. It beggars belief and makes a complete mockery of the programme when the "chef" out of the couple cannot cook for the life of him and the so`called "expert" in wine hasn`t the first idea of where they come from :rolleyes:
 
1. I think many posting here are confused about what they are commenting on and this program - it's not:
(a) a search for the best new chef in Britain (watch Masterchef for that); nor
(b) a popularity contest (watch I'm a celebrity).

2. The clue's in the title. RB wants to find a couple to run a successful new restaurant. Many successful restaurants have been opened and run by savvy businessmen, who hire a reasonable chef and other staff. Many excellent chefs with limited business acumen fail to run a restaurant.

3. Some things can be learnt. JJ can probably learn to follow a recipe, and the myriad of techniques that are the tools of a professional chef. I doubt that the other chefs could develop his palate for flavours and how to mix them. Couple that with the fact that they have actually run a bar, and you have winners!

I'd give JJ and James a 50% chance of running a restaurant successfully / profitably, and a 70% chance that a year on it would be a real success / outstanding. I'd give the best of the other couples a 60% chance of running a successful restaurant, but only a 20% chance that it would ever be outstanding.

So, on that basis, I think RB has made a good choice.

Well that was fun! More scary and watched through fingers than Halloween ghost stories.

I must say I am warming to Monsieur Blonk. He came across all steely tough instead of cheeky chappy, and did you catch the glimpse of his manly arm as he rolled up his sleeve to tackle the manly tin-opener.
 
Hey! BBC Vision! Instead of going through the motion off trawling he nation (by Google!) next time just catch the tube outside BBC TV centre (central line tube to the Westend/Soho/Leicester Square) and select the best and worst from there!!! it would take a lot less time and expense! and a lot less of the pain all of you and us are feeling now!

If I would have been those women then I would have left and hoped that the rest of the group followed. That was just atrocious of Nathan!

And he'd done so well with the asian challenge - I had tipped them for the final.

Bodger & Badger and the Twins are my favourites.
 
I think James and Chris should drop their current partners and work together. James does a very good FOH and Chris is an excellent chef.

I'd love Rebecca and Stephen to win, but I think she panics too easily. Having said that, they do work together well as a team and encourage each other.
 
We were saying the same last night, James and Chris would be an excellent team. Chris has the chefing side covered and smarmy he may be but James is excellent front of house
