The Restaurant 2009

Well almost but not quite! I'm sure in the end it was quite an editorial battle in the board room, over who made good TV over who was good... those of us who ended up in reserve would have made just as good cannon fodder... or not... as those on! :o

Just a note that if you watch this in HD on BBC HD then it's moved to 10pm because of a "Children In Need" concert.

But it's still in grotovision (aka SD) on BBC2 at the usual 8pm time slot.

No offence taken, other than you think I write like a schoolchild. I am the official The Restaurant Archivist whose sole purpose in life is to take what I learn from the programme and apply it to the world at large. From last year I have been successful in:

Putting carrot fahitas and mando whizz on the menu of all primary schools in the UK
Having mayonnaise re-spelled as "mayognaise" in the OED
Launching a chill-cook range of fooRAB under the name "Nel's Brown Slop"

I think I love you! :D

I've responded to Blanc's blog, giving my opinions and asking him just exactly how Chris fell at the last hurdle, given that the edit we saw showed him competently delivering what was asked of him.

I have also asked Blanc how he can on the one hand say that Chris is mature beyond his years, then a couple of paragraphs later say that N & C were too immature to go in to business with.

I've said a few choice worRAB about the winkers too and about their supposed business savvy.

I've also told him that he has lost a customer (which I was). I doubt that I will get a response, but I felt better for saying it. I also said that the interesting facets he is going to dig up about JJ and James are nothing more than a cheap and desperate attempt to give his pish poor decision some credibility.

To the person on here saying that he won't care about losing customers and bad publicity. To me that sums up just how little you know about the business world. Whilst this episode wont ruin the Blanc empire, it certainly has lost him some custom and has brought him a lot of negative publicity, which I don't think any restaurateur can afford in this climate. I would expect his dessert lines to take a bit of a hit from this too.

I thought they already had a cocktail bar and it was just down from Covent Garden tube station. Is this a second one? Or had I imagined / got confused about the first one?

A Mr Whippy machine? Like they have in KFC, nandos, vans in the street etc? SounRAB reet classy.

I suggest you pour yourself a drink and spend a happy half hour or so reading the last 10/12 pages on this forum! The Winkers Cocktail Club menu with its cold platters to share, and 'heat and serve' options is quite eye-opening too!:D

edit P.S. JJ also demonstrated his inability to follow a recipe from a cookery book!

If concept was all he was after RB could have put us out of our misery in episode 1 and given the Winkers the prize when they pitched their 'picnic' food idea.
