The Restaurant 2009

Yes, they were, and I sort of agree with Inspiration. I thought that Barney and Badger were the obvious winners quite early on. I was gutted that they left when they did.


On another note, today I bought the Radio Times for next week. They've published a letter complaining about this series, and the Editor's comment is "Many readers thought this series of The Restaurant was a duffer". Hopefully the BBC will take note, and, if there is another series (which I hope there will be), then it will go back to the old format, and they will choose couples to take part, who have real potential, rather than those they think will make good TV. (I also hope they do this for the Apprentice!).

They should learn from C4 - Big Brother was a really good programme for the first couple of series, when they chose interesting people to enter, rather than those whose only aim was a fast track to become 'celebrities'. I definitely got the 'Big Brother' vibe from this series of the Restaurant (This is not a criticism of the contestants - rather of the people who chose the contestants!)
 
Entertaining show tonight,can't wait until next week for more disasters. The show is missing one vital ingredient though Greg Wallace SHOUTING "you have fifteen minutes " etc
 
Jesus. Watching that knife/coconut scene again is scary. All it would have taken was that coconut slipping on it's curved edge and that knife would have gone straight into her stomach at one point. I'm surprised they even allowed it happen long enough to film it. What on earth were they (the two women) thinking?
 
Just in the interests of fairness, did you see the effort the other contestants put in and the stresses and strains they were put under? Tell them it was "only a TV show". Shouldn't they have been briefed from the start that it didn't matter whether they could cook or not? Then they could have directed their efforts in a direction more likely to have made them "contenders". Or maybe had second thoughts about entering at all.

I must admit that I was wondering last night what the full (unpublished) rules of this programme are. I understand that this is "reality TV" so the BBC presumably like a certain amount of stupidity in the contestants?
However, since the "prize" is to go into a business venture surely there must be a hidden rule somewhere which allows them to decide that the winners are pathetic and that they will not be in charge of a restaurant?

I was also wondering whether or not the year that last year's winners spent "training" was in order to make sure that they really did know what they were doing as well as reducing risk for the investors...
 
I wonder if the cooks get to see the footage before transmission, or will Thursday's broadcast be the first time that Chris will find out what Nathan was up to out front whilst he was hard at work in the kitchen? :eek:

Because one assumes that Nathan delivers a rather different story of his efforts when they debrief afterwarRAB.
