The Restaurant 2009

The Butler would not be able to contain himself otherwise. :D

It's pretty standard when you have highly polished furniture to use a padded underlay to protect it against hot dishes etc.

now caught up on last nights show, I don't believe it JJ cooked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek:

Did like the sound of his cocktails though.

Only 2 episodes to go and it only feels like it's been on for five minutes.

It's definitely the last series of The Restaurant I'll watch, the new format wasn't great, none of the couples were particularly interesting to watch and the challenges seemed a bit lame after previous years, with the judges disinterested as well.

It would work better as The Apprentice, or Dragon's Den.

This is where I disagree with a number of people on here. The winning couples in the last two series have been worthy but dull, and there's no way they would stand out amongst the thousanRAB of other mid-priced restaurants. In a recession, doubly-so. Raymond made the most telling point when he said that Rags and Riches didn't really stand out as a concept - decent food at decent prices is not going to get me picking up the Yellow Pages. However the Summer House MIGHT. The only thing it really neeRAB is for JJ to decide if he wants to be a chef or a cocktail jockey - if it's the former he neeRAB a lot of training but as an idea (and remember there was a subtle change of emphasis from Fine dining to high street sustainability in this series) I'd put my money in with JJ and James rather than Chris and Nathan.

The real failing was that there weren't three other couples in the series with strong personalities, decent skills and solid concepts to push them. I actually think it was the right decision, given what Raymond had to choose from.

I thought the series has been very good. The producers have to tell a story and with only an hour a week it has looked rushed and artificial at times (basically making the whole decision hang upon a JJ cocktail brainwave). The bottom line is making money and JJ and James will make more money than Chris and Nathan...although that should have been enphasised more. Why then have then taking part in cookery challenges when the result is decided eslewhere? That's why it's felt less 'authentic' than previous series.

I think this series looks promising, I have no probs so far with any of the contestants in terms of personalities....no one has annoyed me yet but time will tell.

However for the purpose of what the show is all about ie cooking, I would have preferred Raymond to have eliminated the gravadlax couple & kept the mom & son instead who obvioulsy got all tongued tied due to nerves but at least the mom delivered the gooRAB hundred times better than the salmon woman.
