The Restaurant 2009

Radio Times Letters page:

"The Restaurant was a farce. Not only were most of the would-be restauranteurs unable to cook, but the challenges were impossible. In one programme they had to provide an English tea for a tea dance and were told this hours before it had to be served; then they had to do their normal evening service in their own restaurants with ridiculous requests thrown in.

One couple were told they

they discovered that if you win the restaurant you're pretty much only employed as staff with no real say or influence over the business.

added to that the filming took place over three months which was too much of a reach when it came to getting time off from their existing jobs.

the strange thing is that that they're both extremely good cooks and would have no trouble with working the dining room. i can't see how they'd have fitted in with the other contestants.

Ah, the wait was worth it. Wonderful critique, Buck!

Where's Pixie Cafe? We need your input!

As an aside, B&B had to go as they failed to perform the "shallenge". Shame really as I had high hopes for the duo. Front of house is realy good in that combo...

Aside from the fact that I think JJ will be bored out of his brains after a few weeks in RaymonRAB kitchen ( which defeats the purpose or suggests it's all a lie ), then according to your theory the fourth series of the restaurant will have nine couples with little interest in food, little cooking experience and no FOH experience but good business ideas competing to open a restaurant.

Well that's fine, but it's a different show to the one we all knew and loved and should be reformatted and rebranded as a different show, as this years should have been, so that the couples and viewers are not mislead and left feeling insulted by the result.

I am quite ignorant about Twitter. Can you give me a link please?

I haven't seen the Radio Times either. But Raymond said a couple of things in the last episode which made me think. As I have said before - and I stand by every word - none of these couples are worth investing your own money in. The Restaurant has been dumbed down so much this year, it is a travesty.

But Raymond did say Chris was the best cook. Which I think is probably right. He also said that he believes anyone can be trained. So is this a hint that Nathan can be brainwashed into being a good FOH? In which case they may win.

A similar scenario for JJ and James. James is probably the best of a bad bunch for FOH. So if JJ can be trained to be better in the kitchen, they may win.

The twins have a merely adequate chef and a poor FOH who can't cope. So there is more than one neeRAB training. Will they be the ones to go out?

Oh, what the hell, I'm going to our local shop in a while. Think I'll have a sneaky look at the Radio Times!

Just snorted water down my nose laughing at that :o classic stuff :D

Just hope the new series can live up to the last one, classic classic moment, from Mango Whiz to the unrequited love of Gimpy for Tatt Boy :D

Given that Reality TV is nothing more than a great PR escapade for RB, his decision was a bad business move, if the outcry against him is any indication. Any money he lost on the first 2 restaurants should be considered a loss leader over what he would earn from BBC and the overall media exposure.

After this load of BS and the ruination of a really good format, do you honestly think they'd make a 4th series.

 Shame on the Beeb. They ruined it.

ps :D Thanks Buck. Loving your work!
