The Restaurant 2009

They could have been/should have been scuppered by Chris/Nathan getting on the phone to all the wholesalers/shops in the area to say "don't deliver to these blaggers"

well, I know a couple of ladies who can show him how to open something with a knife

I stopped watching it after around the third episode. I recommended it to my mum on the basis of the previous series, and now I feel guilty for putting her through the trauma.

I come on here to read Buck's excellent summaries, which takes a lot less of my time and gives inordinately more pleasure than watching the actual programme.

Hia, I've only just found this thread.

This years Restaurant was really disappointing - how on eath JJ and James even made the final is beyond me, surely this programme is about opening a restaurant with someone. He didn't even do his own sodding cooking. He didn't use fresh produce, I actually shouted at the tv when Raymond said their names, I couldn't believe it. I'll bet Chris was spitting feathers, he was soooo much better, did everything that you would have expected, Nathan got better nearer then end too.

I really wanted Rebecca and Stephen to win.

In Stephen's nerves defence, my BIL is a michelin star chef in London, he is very quiet, he just cooks, gets on with it. He's not like all the gobby tv chefs. Why should they be, their passion is cooking. Stephen and Rebecca should have been in the final and I wish them all the best in the future.

Right decission by Raymond and his sidekicks.
The desperate housewifes should limit themselves to safety nailcutters. As for ermm, ermm and his mum: "If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favourable."
(Seneca the Younger)

Kudos to the casting crew. They've done a fantastic job. I'm curious about the instructions that were given to them.

The foppish duo with the sunglasses made me laugh out loud. Looks they're trying a bit too hard to get a Tatboy and The Gimp thingy going.

Favourite moment of this episode: the smile on Sarah's face after she heard the phrase "picnick restaurant".

As others have said isn't it strange that the Nigerian themed restaurant ended up in the area it did. Also the w*nkers with the summer themed restaurant ended up with the only restaurant with large outside decking. So much for random choice of restaurants.

Thanks.:o

I can't see any stars this year.

Apart from the great cook, who has the lousy Nathan as a partner.

The winkers are all blag - I'm surprised they're still there.

I like the homely couple, they're tryers and nice, but don't blow anything away really.

Sorry Nathan, but I don't see that as an excuse! There have been enough reality TV shows around for him to know that they will edit things to make people look bad or good, depending on what the director/producer wants to achieve. He should know better than to do stuff on camera that could portray him in a bad light.

Perhaps he felt that as long as he didn't do anything bad in front of M. Blanc, Sarah or David he'd be fine? Forgetting of course that if he wins, people may not want to eat in his restaurant, having seen what he can be like...

As it is obvious that the Winkers were the chosen ones from the outset it is now very clear why the shallenge was abandoned. It would have been too difficult either to find excuses to keep them out of the challenge week after week or to think of a challenge that did not involve cooking.

I was so disappointed that those two won, they certainly didn't deserve to. I certainly won't be watching the next series, Raymond Blanc and his cronies have gone right down in my estimation.

I wonder if this sham of a show affected Ray's business at all. The watching audience were probably also the target audience for Ray's restaurants and supermarket products.

I used to buy his cakes, and have eaten at Le Manoir a couple of times. I haven't spent a penny on anything he is involved in since the winkers won. I bet I'm not alone.

Also, no obvious sign that the winkers have generated huge amounts of cash for Ray either. I seem to remember the other two "judges" were also funding the winner's restaurant. I bet these three are no longer talking to each other.

A complete fiasco for all involved!
