The Restaurant 2009

Me too - I'm gutted for him - he's got to just drop Nathan for someone who's worth it as a partner. He'll succeed then.

You are very right. The show, whilst still entertaining, is a pale imitation of itself. The lack of questioning is very irritating and there is no real analysis, at least on screen, of the performances. Personally I wouldn't dream of going into business with any of them.

JJ is reporting on Twitter that he does a month at Le Manoir in January and a month at Pied a Terre in February. Personally I'd buy a ticket for the latter, if he turns up at David's gaff as bad as he was in the series. :D

However, I suspect he is very trainable and looking back it surprises me that in the course of the series he showed no evidence of any progress in his non-existent cooking skills.

My personal take on the series is that the "Winkers" emerged as the likely winners early on (week 3 and 4) and I suspect the producers and the judges deliberately highlighted the wide boy and non-cooking aspects from then on.

All we had seen up to that time was unremarkable ineptitude and JJ looking frightened by a hot wok!!

Whatever the mystery, I expect them to burst back on our screens sometime in the future.:D

I have added a fifth restaurant and updated the album, so if you want to see the restaurants, and JJ and James menu and wine list, go to the link below. When you get there click on 'View album' then click on 'Layout view' then click on individual photos and when they appear click on the 'view original image' icon above it. You can then zoom in.

The only restaurant not on there is Daisy and Nadine's in Stokes Croft - I am not sure exactly where it is.

I don't disagree with you, and obviously the Winkers being complete winkers doesn't strengthen the concept.

But Raymond has said this at the decision meeting two weeks running, and I can imagine that the profit margin on 29 small plates of party fare is quite healthy.

I can't imagine for the life of me why RB and the others would invest in any of the ideas and people this year. But the shakeout has been fairly merciless of the dull, the dreamers and the flaky - my guess is that those little concept nuggets (IMO only the Winkers and D'Soiree raise a glimmer of interest), are rated more than ...errr being able (and willing) to actually cook.
