Delurking to point out that the Jedward comparison, which I've now seen several times, is totally unfair. John and Edward worked incredibly hard at their performances on XF, gained a cult following and have a lot of fans who absolutely adore them. They are also charming in interviews.
JJ and James, on the other hand, seem to be universally disliked. I personally didn't find them remotely entertaining: in fact, they've put me off The Restaurant for good, though it used to be one of my favourite programmes. What's more, it seems that the result has to have been a foregone conclusion, or there's no way the JJJs would have got through every week. I just feel desperately sorry for the poor mugs who worked their socks off believing it was actually a cooking competition.
Ginny - They live in Lexden in Colchester which is the poshest area within walking distance of the town centre. They used to run their own catering business there and they never sold up to go to Marlow, which shows they were probably never fully commited.
At last I now know the rough location of the 6th restaurant. According to the BBC's press release for Thursday:
"...The restaurants are randomly selected so the locations are a surprise. The couples have to quickly get to know their locations, from upmarket Clifton to downtown Stokes Croft and the industrial quayside...."
So it is somewhere in Stokes Croft which means a very big handicap for the contestants who get that one.
Stokes Croft is not somewhere I would go alone after dark
Here is a guide: (WARNING before you click - contains disturbing scenes including drug abuse)
I am very disappointed. I'm not enjoying this years show at all. May not even bother to watch next week. I don't care about any of the others left in the running.
I still don't see the problem. James was a very good front of house person. JJ could be trained as a chef. They had experience of running a business already. Where is the problem? I don't see one. It's not as if JJ was going to be the only chef in the new place. Raymond would have filled it with his own staff.
Even the winners of series 2 are no longer involved in a restaurant business. It's not as simple as Raymond handing over the keys to a building fitted out with everything they need and saying "cheerio!" and they all live happily ever after.
The winners of series 1 didn't even last 6 months at their restaurant.
I hadn't realised the BBC had axed the series. Shame.
