The Restaurant 2009

OMG, I just watched last weeks episode. My jaw is literally on the floor. I can't friggin believe that they sent the Stephen and Rebecca home over the Summer House guys. I can appreciate that Stephen and Rebecca are to fragile emotionally, but it just makes a mockery of the show that the two JJ and James are in the finale. James doesn't his upmost to aviod cooking and he can't even run the pass. When every they do something wrong and get called on it, they just bullshit they way out of it. How can they justify having them in the finale. Surely its got to be an easy win for Nathan and Chris now. Surely Raymond wouldn't embarass himself and go into business with JJ and James, he'd be a laughing stock.

Can't they get chairs for Raymond, David and Sarah when they're trying the food? they look like the local tramps feeding off the scraps, shovelling it in before they get caught!

Just popped in to say.....

WORST SERIES OF THE RESTAURANT EVER!!

Worst selection of teams
Worst challenges
Worst result

Don't apply for this show if you are 'a bit common' and didn't go to the 'right' school.

That is all.

The lovely Michel Roux Jnr would be my pick, (with him still doing MCTP of course), scarey Monica could be one of the judges as well :)

Such a disappointment this series, after 2 I really enjoyed, to end up as just a very long advert for his new business is so annoying.

I didn't say that. He didn't even read the recipe properly enough to know that you whisk the egg whites first. That doesn't create an "imperfect" souffle, it doesn't create a souffle at all.

But it is EXACTLY the same as what they were offering in their previous Cocktail Club venture.......cocktails and food platters!!!! Nothing has changed apart from the address and the decor!

I'd imagine if that pair lose it will be down to front of house and I can't see their frienRABhip lasting if that's the case. Was Nathan really the best person Chris could have found to partner with?

Actually whilst one of the guests said that it was a bit tepid instead of hot which ruined the whole thing, it then cut to Raymond who said it was wonderful and just how it should be.

I cannot see why people are so surprised at the result.
Would you go into business with Nathan ?..Chris and Nathan came as a package don't forget.
I thought RB was being very kind in his blog saying "Nathan is a reformed character"..I didn't see any evidence of that.
I thought he was rude and surly, that might be excusable if he had been brilliant in other departments..but he was downright lazy as well !
I did feel sorry for Chris, it should serve as an important lesson for him..don't go into partnership with someone just because they happen to be your best mate. Business is business, you don't even have to particularly like someone to run a successful business venture with them, but you do need mutual respect.
Personally, I wouldn't have wanted to enter into a business venture with either couple. But given that RB was probably contractually obliged to choose one of the pairings, I would have made the same decision in his position. In that case, I would make sure any contract gave me an easy "get out clause"..and watch every move the "winkers" made, they are a couple of charming blaggers.
However, there's nothing to say that blaggers cannot succeed in business..just take a look around at some well known names. :D

Had a chance to catch up my emails and have received the seemingly standard reply from the Beeb!

"The decision to pick JJ and James as the winners was made by Sarah Willingham, Raymond Blanc and David Moore. The three partners were looking for a broad range of skills, not just the ability to cook. The series is an open competition offering ordinary people the chance to open a restaurant and the judges are looking for potential they can develop."

I stil do not see that, as The Winkers were already running The Cocktail Club serving cocktalis and food platters, how they could even be eligible in the first place.

The chance to open a restaurant...NOT open another one!

Whole sorry saga still stinks IMO

I am never watching this show again. Just saw the final episode on Iplayer last night and what a biggest load of rubbish ever!

Blanc said within the programme that "I am never without a cookery book, I always cook to recipes" which goes to show the standard of his cook by numbers approach and explains the reason he chose those blaggers over the other guy who could actually cook! He knows that JJ can't cook and will actually follow a recipe by numbers! Real chefs can just 'know' what to do with things!

Blanc shows his idiocy further after being impressed by the Beef that JJ cooked, however the only reason it was so rare was because they ran out of time !!! !!!!!

Its absolutley crazy. This show, which I caught for the first time this year which wants to be the apprentice just has no credibility whatsoever.

Blanc has either A > been conned or B> Wants to open a cocktail bar and I'm unsure which.

Taking of which, he said the reason the winners won is that they stayed faithful to their concept which go them out of trouble at the end.....

But they didn't! Their concept was outdoor eating, inside.
aka their rubbish with their gourmet scotch eggs...

Not cocktails! nowhere did they say the cocktails was their actual concept! The cocktails was their other business!

Who on earth here would actually go pay money to eat at their restaurant? What on earth would be on the menu?
Some crisps, cocktail sausages and their scotch eggs ? ?!!
I'd rather eat in Whetherspoons and thats saying something.

The other team should have won it, or if not them the rolly-polly couple who looked like they could be twins but were actually husband and wife!
