The Restaurant 2009

Well, the Winkers have been locked up in Le Manoir since Xmas, and haven't been chucked out yet, so who knows how far the Scotch Egg has evolved.

I'd certainly fancy my chances of knocking up some decent nosh with M Blanc as my teacher, though I probably wouldn't want the poor chap to teach me how to walk down stairs.

Get well soon Raymond. ;)

Thanks - in that case, I think the fundamental question for all the "fly on the wall" shows - whether they are competitions or not - is the honesty of the editing, and the "scoring". BBC / RB can choose a small % of the footage of each couple, for each task. Because the "scoring" was all subjective by RB and his chums, there's zero chance of us agreeing with them.

That said, if they changed all the tasks to objectively scored ones (covers / profit / mass tastings) it would be a much duller show, and we'd probably see the winners selling fast food out of a van!

Summed it up well. What was the point of last night`s challenge cooking at the country house if RB was more interested in the "concept" rather than who could cook (and let`s face it your average 12 year old could cook better than the gormless JJ who is so incredibly lazy he bought in vegetables rather than taking the time to go and dig them up out of the garden

Yes, yes, yes! It bugged me for AGES who he reminded me of and then I got it on Thursday night. It's that haggard, knackered, druggy look isn't it?!!

Keeping a low profile comes to mind!

I really do think that all those involved with making the programme were arrogant enough to think that they could get away with 'a few complaints'; the ensuing furore took them completely by surprise! No matter how much the main protagonists insist they made the 'right' decision, I think they know that their reputations and judgments have been tarnished.

My heart sank when Sarah said the Winkers concept was very High Street and could work

I think the married twins will win but I don't care any more. They aren't interesting enough for me to get interested in them, and they were wearing matching outfits today  Why?

I don't like the Nigerian concept, the less said about the Winkers the better and Nathan is a sulky idiot.

Right sticking my neck out here..

The final will be "Bodgers Badger -v- The Couple"

I hope the couple win but I've a feeling Badgers will win. They're ahead of the rest right now but don't under estimate the couple. I think they're very good.

yes but it is hardly the sort of thing you want to see in a prospective restauranteur - you want to see an ability to stay calm, be focused, be driven. Not that many of the others showed that in bucket loaRAB! The very occasional tear or whinge, perhaps, but not almost incessantly and the "let's give up before we have tried the challenge" style of approach she showed so skilfully.

And that's not even mentioning the hilarious over-the-top ness, which translated itself into lack of palate/letting preconceptions get in the way - again, not a good quality for a prospective restauranteur - when Raymond sent the gourmet food over and she balked at it before even trying.

But they could well run a burger and kebab van successfully as a pair. He at least is a good chef when it comes to straighforward (arguably crowd-pleasing) unadventurous fayre - and there is a market for that.

:D LOL I was thinking exactly the same thing. Sometimes people just dont understand how these message boarRAB work, do they?

:p I doubt if I'd still be watching if it wasn't for these boarRAB, though why have they got personal all of a sudden? Buck, Straker and co have me in stitches. Leave off nit picking with posters, please. We have a rich seam of irony and sarcasm which we can direct at the 5 numpties on the programme. (I excuse Chris cos I think he's the only one who deserves to be there)

Evening all.

More like a cooking desert?

I suppose a late twist of the 'partners' refusing to part with their money for either couple is too much to hope for...
