The Restaurant 2009

I watch it now, rather like a Brian Rix farce from years gone by and laugh like a drain.

None of them are capable of running a restaurant and the winners will be managed within an inch of their life until they give up and go home.

Interesting review. Good to hear that Badger and Bodger were as good as I thought they were. I wonder at the editing on Rebecca and Stephen's segments, I always felt that 'judges' were prejudiced towarRAB them and were shown in a bad light.

I wanted them to stay purely so we could have a restaurant called Blancety Blanc.

The potato trick is a common remedy for reducing saltiness but I still maintain that as it was a processed stock & probably full of additives, it was never going to taste that nice and was not designed to be reduced. It wasn't just the salt that was a problem, it was all the other gunk in there.

I disagree. I think Stephen and Rebecca, over time, would have been the BEST couple. They were passionate about the restaurant, stayed true to their theme and worked their socks off, with good results.

I only hope that they have gone onto bigger and better things and have their own restaurant!

Adding more water would defeat the point of reducing the stock and would also remove flavour.

(Add a peeled potato to the stock...see my previous post)

From Crazy Ray's latest blog. I have interspersed it with my comments in bold.

JJ and James. I know that many of you disagreed with my own choice of winners for 2009. So, either David, Sarah and I are all completely stupid, or perhaps there is much more to these boys than meets the eye? Meaning the public couldn't see it and so were stupid rather than CR, D & S?
JJ and James were unpopular and they carried all the stigma of youth: their perceived inadequacies Um - actual inadequacies - they couldn't cook!and lack of skill so how could they win a competition to set up a restaurantrankled with many of you, and so did their appearances and attitudes: cocky boys, winking even CR noticed thenand flicking their hair

The Nigerian girls are going (I think)..

The ignored their brief tonight (quite blatantly) and their concept would be tricky to make money from and they are some really good Nigerian restauarants in UK (well London really)..

They don't decide on the actual winner until a couple of days before the final is shown. So the only spoiler would be the final two couples.

I suppose the other thing you get in the army is the chain of command and everyone knowing what their specific remit is, whereas as a restaurant manager he has to run the whole show himself.

A great pity as the restaurant experience the served up seemed to be the best of the lot and Badger was so good at front of house. A sad end.

Buck Tarbrush, a man of impeccable taste and finely tuned observational skills.

Not a week goes by without him noting and bringing to the attention of those less attentive, the weekly bosom sightings in our programme of choice.

How apt that the show is filmed in Bristol City.

Buck (I hope you do not mind my informality), do you think that stunning pair went unappreciated by Nathan?

Forget restaurant of the week, it should be (.)(.) of the week. Now that's my type of shallonge!

I don't think it was just a case of nerves, the guy seemed utterly clueless.

Surely the theme of the restaurant would have been something he and his mother talked about in depth before embarking on this venture?

And if he was such a nervy fella, I doubt he'd have been any good at front of house.

I thought it was the right decision to send them packing.

Shame for the mother though because her dish looked quite appealing and we haven't had a vegetarian themed restaurant on the show before.
