The Restaurant 2009

The weakness of JJ (cannot cook) will be swept away by his obvious talent: cocktail-making.

I might get a few t-shirts made-up with that on that front, send one each to Le Blank, Sarah and David. As I wouldn

I really do hope that was just their nerves and pressure getting the better of them and they don't do that at home.. but they're insane for even trying that.

The young teenagers that appeared on Britain’s Best dish could run rings around this lot. So could people on almost any other cookery programme I’ve seen.

What a contrast...Heston Blumenthal sticks to his principles and genuinely tries to up the quality at Little Chef.

Raymond Blanc deserts his fine cuisine principles and agrees to open a ... sandwich bar??

I dont have a problem with that per se, except that he should have done it on his own time, and not as part of a cookery programme where people expect the best man to win. I personally dont care if he goes into business with Nicholas van hoogstraten as long as he doesnt use the show to do it in.

I enjoyed the show last night, but am definitely not impressed with the format changes, which are a big step backwarRAB - actually, if someone had told me that this was an unaired pilot from 3 years ago I'd have believed them.

The contestant selection seems frankly bizarre too - some of the mistakes could be put down to nerves, but not knowing how to cook peas? Salmon from a packet? And the coconut women clearly couldn't even find their way to a kitchen with a map & compass...

Will keep watching for now, but I think this'll be the last series if things don't pick up...

I dont think any of the other couples (probably apart from Chris and Nathan, although I wasnt keen on Nathan's attitude) had the ability. Yes, I'm sure RB could mould anyone into a chef/FOH but S&R just had that "something" for me. Its like I knew they would succeed if they had won.

And as for Rebecca being moany and tearful - I probably would have been the same. It just shows the passion, frustration, nerves, overwhelming emotions that they went through. And their comfort food DID get miles better as time went on - even Sarah commented that she was impressed on Stephen's improvement.

I wish there was somewhere we could read an update on all the couples to find out what they are doing now as I would love to know what happened after the show.

Thats it!! I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation. Cos for someone who can't cook to get into the final of "the restaurant", nothing else makes sense. Unless JJ keeps spiking their food/drink every time they visit his restaurant and they keep hallucinating that he is a worthy competitor?

But he had the recipe in front of him, I could understand if it was something more technical like the souffle not rising, but at least read the recipe properly when it's something this important!

I can't stand Rebecca - she comes across as too smug & needy.

Then again, I don't think any of them seem to be any good actually, and I wouldn't want to eat in any of the restaurants
