The removal of finger nails in films.

Seeing as it's nearly halloween i'm starting a thread about something that, even as a seasoned horror fan, chills me to my bones.

I'm talking about finger nails, and more importantly their removal. I just can't cope with it! Wether it's accidental or intentional it's usually accompanied by a nasty snapping sound and more often than not a scream, and sometimes it's in slow-motion. (thanks for that)

A couple of examples are The texas chainsaw remake for the 'victim being dragged away resulting in loss of finger nail' also Stir of echoes (great film) for the rape scene where the victim struggles result in the removal of her nail.

Bloody hell i'm clenching my fist here! It really unsettles me, especially when it's not obvious that it's going to happen. That's when you'll hear me scream like Ned Flanders!

Anyone else feel the same way or is it something else that gets you, and what other examples are there?

Drowning!

I can't cope with people being trapped underwater or sinking in quicksand or mud.

It REALLY horrifies me.

I have to go out of the room or shut my eyes and put my hanRAB over my ears until it's safe to look again.

Ugh, I was watching a film called P2 a few nights ago and the lead had to pull a fingernail off...

I can watch most things gory in films, but nails, teeth and needles make me cringe.

Agree 100% and I always use that same scene as an example. I can watch so much gore but it's the "simple" things which make me squirm. I assume it's because we know what it would feel like to have a nail ripped off as most of us have torn one back a bit before. Whereas we can only imagine the sensation of having our head lopped off.

Another thing that made me cringe was in a Jackass when they're giving each other papercuts between fingers and toes. I could barely watch!

My GF has a thing about eyes. Anything being stuck in them or, worse, the whole thing popping out and that's her out the room. Mind you, it's the same with spiders so I don't think it means anything particularly. She's just a wimp.

I had to have both my big toe nails removed right into the nailbed so they wont grow back

My toes were numbed but I did watch them being removed, there wasnt much blood but I wonder if thats because they cauterised (spl) the nail bed

It didnt seem so bad (and there was no snapping sounRAB):D

Fingernails getting ripped off.
For the best (Most gruesome) example, Watch "The Wind that Shakes the Barley", where an unfortunate IRA leader gets all 10 fingernails removed.

Another sickener concerning fingernails.
Masters Of Horror" Series 1 Imprint. This episode contains probably the worst scene ever filmed concerning fingernails.
Worth getting the DVD Series One just for that.

It seems to be a bit of a trend where horror movies are concerned these days.

The most notable ones that spring to mind for me are in The Descent where the lovely Saskia Mulder(the Dutch lass with the dodgy name of Fist in The Book Group) is pulled down a chasm by one of the cave-dwelling nasties and her fingernails break off:eek:

There's also been another recent movie called WAZ, which features Stellen Skarsgaard, Selma Blair and Melissa George, and there's some nasty fingernail removal torture in that via a hammer and a chisel:eek:

Thought of another one. Under the ice, like the boy in Omen 2 (?) stuck under there and trying to find the way out, there was a music video on a similar theme ages ago, freaked me out too!:o
