I'm still not really sure how you can reconcile the two, unless you and the mods go through some form of moderation as regards to the nominations that people give (as opposed to doing the nominations yourselves) but, hey, OK... I trust it'll be fine in the end anyway and that I'm just, I don't know, nitpicking or something.

I think when it comes to nominations for next year we will have to add some rules about how many times you can nominate the same movie.

With the Oscars I find some movies are purposely left out of the running, whereas with The Reel Awards, any movie from that previous year is eligible for a nomination. Nothing is excluded.

That was my main reason for wanting to do these awards is to include those movies that got ignored, but not just the dramas, the comedies, horror's and animated features.

Thank you to everyone for posting your concerns, comments and suggestions.

It's great to hear everyone's opinions and how they vary.

Mostly because the point of this poll/thread is to get the truth out, and if we don't know what you feel needs to be adjusted or changed, we can't do anything about it.

So it's important to post how you feel, even if it's negative, that's okay, your opinion matters!!!!

I would so love to do that. :)

I first saw Paul Dano in The girl next door and in The Ballad of Jack and Rose. I don't think he's ever given a weak performance, at least, I haven't seen one and I've watched a few of his movies now.

I did nominate someone and voted for another nominee in The Reel Awards in some categories. My conscience wouldn't let me vote for a favorite if I thought someone else/another movie was better. lol

Thanks for the links! :)

Good idea about moving the discussion, we were sort of off topic! ;)

^^ That was my concern with having just the moderators and myself come up with the nominees, that people who want to make nominations don't get their say.

Like i said, it is an option, it's not something that's set in stone, but hopefully by next year, taking the points made on this thread and the results from the poll, we can refine them so that everyone has an equal say.

That's the most important part for me is that everyone has an equal say.

He was the brother in "Little Miss Sunshine," and was also in "The Girl Next Door," "Fast Food Nation," and played the younger Asher in "Taking Lives." :)

Here is his imdb profile

*cough* I think it's a better idea to move our discussion of both movies to their respective threads and allow this thread to be for feedback... well that and also because I love both movies and think that more people should be posting on their threads. So I'm bumping their threads, sort of. But with quality discussion.

There Will Be Blood
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I enjoyed the narration, my sister HATED it.

As for There Will Be Blood---that movie is perfectly made. the only time viewers might find it's slow going I think would maybe be at the beginning where there is hardly any dialogue to help push it along. To me though, perfection.

What do you mean by this?

Got to agree with you there. Then again this will always be a problem with user-directed polls or competitions. Firstly I'm sure 99% of the people here have not watched every single movie that was nominated. And because of this people tend to be biased in favour of the ones they liked, in this case Hairspray. (And in the case of Casey, Jesse James was criminally overlooked by everybody so it's not surprising that no one really voted Casey, although I have to say that I myself was stunned at the depth of his Bob Ford and felt that he should have won the Academy Award, let alone this Movie Reel award...)

This is linked to the query I have about the closed categories (is that what you meant Melika?) - on one hand if people get to nominate and vote for whatever they want then it'll obviously be skewed to what people like, not necessarily what's best; but on the other hand I'm not so sure I like the idea of a select few people doing the nominations. Hypothetically, you'd have to ask: who gets to nominate? Which categories are closed and which are open? Will the nominations be stuff that people actually have seen? The point is that FF is a forum and everyone gets equal say... the idea of closed categories isn't one that sits very well with me. Just my two cents.

I completely agree Christina about Dano.

I think people get so excited about a film that they decide to just mass vote for a film instead of actually voting for the person/film that was actually the best. I just don't know how you can actually monitor that other than limiting how many times you can vote for the same film....

That would be the benefit of myself and the moderators picking the nominees, we would make sure there is variety.

At least Casey got a nomination... Unlike Paul Dano  His performance in There Will Be Blood was the most overlooked of season.

No, because there are two versions - one has only one disc, just the movie, and hte other has two discs, the movie and extras. And did you buy or did you rent it? I don't know if I should get it.

True enough, I suppose. But a lot of people didn't like it - I guess they found the narration superfluous but as someone who doesn't know the Jesse James legend I found it helpful.

I don't know which version it is, i think it's the theatrical version.

I like the narration, it confirmed what you were thinking or if you were unsure of something.
