I always thought they were getting Anton ready for that role - hence giving him different shows like that cooking thing and Hole in the Wall to build up his experience.

Will the press get bored though?
There's only so many ways a story about Daybreak's low ratings can be written, but the tabloiRAB are still doing so every few days. At some point they will surely move on to something else?

New River Monsters starts in that slot next week

Considering how Christmas and New Years Day will fall on a Saturday, and Boxing Day on a Sunday, I wonder if they will wait until then to make up the missed half hour. If they stick to 11 half hour episodes over Christmas with the normal ones unchanged and Christmas Day an hour, that means New Years Day can only be 30 minutes, and nothing on Boxing Day. I don't think a Boxing Day episode is necessary (would be nice though) but just 30 minutes on NYD seems a bit short considering how there is usally a big New Years storyline

What about trying Popstar to Operastar on a Tuesday?

It's not particularly surprising that SCD's week-on-week rise was bigger than TXF's because it started almost half an hour later yesterday compared to last week. As we've seen with the breakdowns previously, 6pm starts tend to dent SCD's averages, but yesterday it began at 6.25pm and finished later so of course there was going to be a significant week-on-week gain. If there hadn't been a decent week-on-week rise, that would've suggested something was wrong.

TXF was in nearly the same sort of slot as last week and with 'Halloween' more likely to affect its audience (younger audience than Strictly), it's no surprise that its week-on-week gain wasn't as much as SCD's.

You're right that there'll be a few episodes of TXF coming up that'll rate below last year's comparable ratings due to all the Jedward hype last year peaking midway through the live shows. But I won't change the way I'll comment on the ratings.

Considering Sunrise isn't even able to beat the Breakfast simucast on the BBC news channel, I would very much doubt that it would close any gap.

And a 4k increase over the last 2 years isn't much to boast about when Breakfast has increased by 400k over the same period and thats before the BBC news channel simucast is added!

overnights I have - non HD - to stop the arguments ;):p

Emmers - 7.5m
Poirot - 4.6m (won the first hour, lost the second)
WR - 4.4m
Apprentice - 6m
MC:Pros - 3.5m
Buried Alive - 1.3m
GD - 2.6m
MPD - 2.1m
Cowboy Builders - 1.5m

Exactly. They've obviously cut the commission, so it can be fitted in next autumn. In this country, autumn TV is a sixteen-week season, so 10 Merlins and 6 Doctor Whos will fill the autumn.

 Gavin and Stacey's final series was a totally different situation. It was scheduled so to Finish at Christmas/ New Year. Outcasts is a completely different situation

Yeah because it has happened so often in the past with major new dramas:rolleyes:

Good rating for The Inbetweeners again.

What are the chances of it getting an official rating of 4.55m for last week's final episode?

Yeah, superb telly. Filling up every difficult slot with more and more soap. Pats on back all round.

Aren't ITV brilliant?

HIGNFY seems to be being dragged down by a poor lead-in and a (sadly) turn-off show following it. Despite no real competition from the other side.

Maybe HIGNFY is one of those shows that does work better on Friday? It still feels not right watching an established "end of the working week" show on a Thursday.

I dont think Tess and Claudia would work for the full show.

If they went that way, Tess wuld be the main presenter, and Claudia would be the number 2. IMHO Tess does being the number 2 presenter well, but just doesnt have the presence or personality to be the mian presenter, she is more suited to being the side act.

On the other hand Claudia is more of a main presenter, her persoanlity works better at this than being the second presenter. The problem being is that i just think Claudias presenting style and personality is just too niche, edgy and quirky to be the main presenter of a mass appeal, slightly older appealing show like SCD.

I agree that Anton was probably being groomed as the next host, but that was before all his bad publicity. At the same time i dont think he fits with the new producers vision for SCD, hes more old school. As for Norton, i cant say i was a big fan of him in the dancing show he did for BBC1.

Cant believe how low those CBBC figures are. Blue Peter- iconic Blue Peter- with just 400,000 when in what seems another reality 8 million would tune into what was a national institution. I suppose it was another reality really. I guess it performs a function but it hardly seems worth it- a Times report last year stated only 100,000 6 to 12 year olRAB were tuning in.

Another great figure for my favourite daytime show Homes Under the Hammer -once you start watching you are tranquilised -great at the very least because it prevents Philip Schofield from gloating.

Thanks D.M.N. :)

I suspect we'll see a small rise next week as half term will have been denting it this week. Lorraine's drop yesterday was weird as so far her show has being doing well this week, benefiting from parents who are normally up for Daybreak watching Lorraine instead due to half term. That'll be why Breakfast has been steady this week, as if you lump Daybreak and Lorraine's ratings together there probably wouldn't be much difference from last week to this week.

When comparing Daybreak with GMTV it's best to include Lorraine as GMTV's ratings also included her show and that presumably inflated their ratings too. When you do that, you get an average of about 0.7m for this week, which I believe is roughly the same as (if not slightly above) what GMTV got in school holidays this year. I suspect the 6:00-8:30am section of that got similar ratings to what Daybreak has had this week. Not that this should be used to defend Daybreak, as these ratings are not acceptable and something must be done, but I don't think the overall 6:00-9:25am performance is much, if any worse than GMTV earlier this year.

Surprisingly high for Jeremy Kyle too - no idea why? This Morning didn't seem to benefit though and Loose Women is looking a little low. Their afternoon line-up seems solid though based on the figures posted the other week, and Dickinson's Real Deal really suits the 3pm slot and MiRABomer repeats rate well at 4pm. Titchmarsh could probably do with being moved back to 3pm where he did well before though, as whilst his ratings aren't terrible The Chase would probably be getting 2m or so in that slot at this time of year. Golden Balls was getting ~1.5m this time last year and that's been axed.
