The Ratings Thread (Part 13)

Something I forgot to post the other day, this is what BBC Two, Channel 4 and Five average between 06:00 and 08:30 (in this case Tuesday) :

Five - 0.15m (4.3%)
Channel 4 - 0.09m (2.4%) (inc +1)
BBC Two - 0.07m (2.3%)

Didn't think Five would be leading the children's programme, although it is by a fairly 'big' margin for that time of the morning. OK, its only a 1 day sample, but interesting to see nevertheless.

blimey..a contrite comment from RobbieSykes. Maybe changing the clocks back has affected him today??

There's no question that SCD is much improved this year. Obv they need to cast his replacement right, but will Brucie REALLY be a loss next year (if he goes?)

Re Daybreak....to think it seemed bad that Breakfast got DOUBLE their audience a few weeks back. BBC must surely be getting TRIPLE these days:eek:

Daybreak is more attracted to the Mums and DaRAB demographic, hence they suffer more as less Mums and DaRAB are watching TV in the early morning this week as there's no kiRAB to take to school.

Which reminRAB me: What are Daybreak doing instead of "Something cool before the kiRAB go to school"?

Coming from you that is a compliment. :D

I find it hyprcritical that Trevor Eve has accepted huge money from the BBC that has made him the most well paid actor in the country. Yet he decides to attack the BBC, presumably after he has found out there will be no more Waking The Dead money coming in, for over focusing on Doctor Who. A show that is only on for less than 14 hours a year.

Also, this occurs when he's just got two drama roles on ITV. I doubt we will be hearing him criticise ITV for cutting drama output for reality shows though.

Again the BBC offered a decent alternative to ITV1, knowing that a large part of the viewing public found I'm A Celeb trashy and predictable. The first series of Survivors did well against one of ITV's biggest hitters.
The BBC now seem to be more adept at scheduling against popular ITV shows. Typically in the seventies, against Opportunity Knocks, Coronation St and George and Mildred, their alternative would be a repeat of an imported show, followed by Panorama, which would be flattened by the opposition.

Yeah thank goodness C4 turned down The Cube originally, I dread to think what they'd have done with it (plus Justin Lee Collins was going to host it which would have been an instant kiss of death).

Had they got their way with Deal it would probably be dead now too, as it is in the US now after they started doing silly stunts to gain publicity. Whilst Deal here is nowhere near as popular as it once was, it still does very nicely for them in the afternoons, but they could well have thrown that away.

They're by no means the only ones obsessed with celebrity - ITV also do far too many celebrity shows (although they have cut down) whilst BBC1 also get in on the act from time to time, but C4 do seem obsessed at the moment! Celebrity Coach Trip is scraping the barrel. Celebrity Secret Millionaire would be amusing though as the Z listers probably wouldn't get rumbled!

Paul Millar - do you know what Celebrity Juice got on ITV2+1 and what What Katie Did Next got on ITV2 and ITV2+1 an hour earlier? Also how did the E4 show at 7pm (FrienRAB) rate? Thanks in advance.

For Thursday night: What else did ITV expect airing rubbish like Monte Carlo or Bust? I woiuldn't say that that is an example of the Coronsation Street lead in failing, though - rubbish is not going to do well, whatever lead in it receives. I think I'm right in saying The Bill dipped after losing the Coronation Street lead in.

For last night: Great for BBC1, the soaps and Million Pound Drop. Paul O'Grady is holding steady, and the performance of The Graham Norton Show means that BBC1 is not missing Jonathan Ross at all. I wonder whether he'll appear on Graham Norton as a guest...

One good thing for Daybreak is at least during this half term week, they can mop up all the 'lowest ever ratings' stories at once. .

Unless the press are going to report on how the 27th-31st December editions of Daybreak rate which I doubt, every edition from next week to mid February should in theory rate higher than this week and therefore the press stories should dry up, allowing some sort of increase to occur away from the gaze of the press.

Brilliant rating for The Million Pound Drop, its best rating out of both series. Some low figures for the soaps last night, especially share-wise for EastEnders and the 2nd Coronation Street episode. Also, I'm quite surprised that The Mentalist was down from last week's rating despite The Event's rating falling too.

BBC One seem to have run out of space before Christmas for all their drama. I can sort of understand the decisions on Sunday - Garrow's Law did a relatively modest 4m in that slot last year, but of course its constrained by the competetiveness of ITV's XF-boosted fare in the hour. If they've big hopes for Aurelio Zen or South Riding, waiting till next year makes sense. DOI appears relatively vulnerable.

I hope they find a good slot for Outcasts. Tuesdays seem to be the kiss of death for a lot of drama. It shouldn't be on BBC One - Holby gives a great lead-in - but it's been ages since anything excelled there. Survivors, The Deep and Luther have all come a cropper there - to differing extents - over the course of 2010.

In the US, ABC must be absolutely delighted with the strength of their Wednesday comedy block. Mondays and Wednesdays has been the bright spot of a season which has mostly been one of flopping new series and the graceful decline of ageing dramas.

It's a shame ABC isn't on the Superbowl rotation anymore since they gave MNF to ESPN. Something like a post-Superbowl episode (as Glee has next February on Fox) could just give Modern Family a boost into the stratosphere. Still, they'll be delighted its now topping even the notoriously strong CBS comedies (which do seem down a litttle thanks to the reshuffle).
