The Psychology Behind Reality TV?

I was wondering if anyone knew some good sites with information about why people like reality tv - specifically the psychology behind it, and how it relates to our evolution.

Feel free to give you own opinions on the issue as well.

I have a few opinions of my own on this issue, but haven't been able to find many sites that back up my opinion.

I'm not an expert but i think some people like it because they know it isn't scripted and thats its actually happening. Not really sure why though.
 
Well, I have no idea whether or not my opinions will back yours.
To me, reality TV is preferred by many because the present generation of young adults, as well as some not-so-young adults have grown to distrust TV shows (sitcoms, dramas, fantasies, etc.). They want entertainment that is "more real." Course there's lots that's phony with reality TV too, so it's an illusion.
You can see this tendency in groups of young adults that seem to prefer each other's humor and "acting" to anything on TV or produced by media companies, even when that humor and acting are rather "hokey."
On evolution, I don't believe in it. I believe technology has evolved, but there were juvenile delinquents in aristotle's day, just like in ours.
