Wow, i commented on both systems and sure enough some insecure PS3 owner no doubt calls me a MS sackrider and quotes (without actually citing, I might add) some random shit he read on the internets about the situation.
Yeah.
Anyway, it is not simply a rumor that got downplayed. More like a debate.
Because the video game industry is the field I intend to pursue, and development interests me quite a bit, and I'm bored as fuck...I'll discuss it in a mostly civilized manner, despite the fact that I don't really give a shit one way or the other, and I'm positive this will be nitpicked and/or ignored by people firmly straddling Sony's scrotum.
Rockstar said the game would be "running 720p on both systems" way back in an EGM article or some shit, before the game's release and all this.
Just like MS forever claimed Halo 3 was 720p (after all, thats what it was when it hits your screen so it must be rendered at that, right? )
AFAIK, R* has had no official word on this particular debate
And frankly, they probably look at it the same way I do... in the end what the fuck difference does it make? The game looks awesome on both systems.
Fuck, I even said I LIKE the way the PS3 version looks a little better. (Mainly because I sit about 3' away from my 37" LCD while playing )
Not once did R* ever specify whether or not hardware or software scaling might push it to 720p from a lower resolution render, resulting in the slightly "blurred", processed effect most likely used to mask its otherwise slightly noticeable resolution difference, giving it an overall smooth appearance on today's high definition tvs.
It isn't quite aliasing, because the jaggies are still visible on a few rare occasions if you look, just blurred...that is not aliasing or multi-sampling. It is a similar process as has been used before i.e. Halo 3/lord knows what other games. Some TV's and digital receivers even have somewhat similar (though far shittier) effects available when upscaling SD-TV/DVDs.
"capturing raw 720p output from the system", as one report from gamesradar said, is bullshit.
All you can capture raw from the system is exactly what the hardware and software puts out per a particular game's programming. Software scaling, processing and all.
On a console, you cant magically strip what the programmer's have built into the game's code to get the image exactly as it is rendered before any processing/filtering/shader effects or passes are added.
The last notable time there was a discrepancy between a supposed resolution and the actual one, the SAME FUCKING GUY caught it, and nobody questioned it. In fact, iirc Sony fans were quick to jump on it in an effort to take the wind from Halo 3's sails.
All this is, once again, is yet more Sony lovers trying to block out or downplay any possible slightly (barely) negative thing someone can say about the system.
As if it even makes any fucking difference the game may have ~90 less lines before filters out the ass are added in to smooth everything out and make it look pretty, considering it is the SAME damned game and looks nearly identical unless you actually compare them side by side or on the same screen, which who the fuck would do that in any normal situation? Nobody.
Buy it and play it for whatever system you (and your friends) have and shut the fuck up.
Which is just what the video said (kind of). Just what every video has said.
They didn't say SHIT about the PS3 or 360 version being really better than the other at ALL aside from quicker loading times for PS3 and a slightly smoothed out appearance, more vibrant colors on the 360 and a slightly sharper appearance, so what the fuck was this thread about?
