The pros and cons of Private and Public Schooling?

My daughter is very intelligent, her IQ test results came back yesterday (I asked the doctor a few weeks ago where we could take her to be IQ tested) and her IQ was 132 and she's 6 years old, I just feel private schooling may be more beneficial to her but my husband isn't as easily convinced.

I think you should look at how good the education is at the private schools. Look at their results etc..
Alot of the time, people assume that private schools are better than public when in reality the public schools have better teachers and better results. I personally prefer public schools as both my parents are teachers. Also at a private school, most of the students will be bright and have a lot of money but if she goes to a public school, she will meet people from different financial and social backgrounds. This would make going into the 'real world' easier and and she would be able to accept different people.

Oh, and you dont have to pay thousands of pounds every year to go to a public school :)

it does not usually matter public versus private school. determine what she is interested in and have her take some lessons extra in that if you have the money, if not the local library is a good resource.

Look at the reputation of ALL the schools in your area before making the decision, send her to the one with the best reputation for academic support and emotional support as the highly intelligent are often victims of bullying.
In the places I grew up in a lot of the private schools had some really nasty reputations- they were the dumping grounds of the public schools! Once a kid got kicked out of all the public schools the government subsidised their education at a private school- some of those private school kids belonged behind bars!
Here it is kind of a catch 22- both the private AND public schools are NOT the type of place I want my children! My local public primary school has a good reputation, but there are rumours that it will be shut down before my son is old enough to enrol- if it is he is going private, to a religious school as these are only two schools within reasonable proximity to my place that I would trust!
