The Prestige

Wow. I just got back from watching it. Mr. Nolan is now officially one of my favourite directors - Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins and now The Prestige...

I'm still in so much awe I can't even collect my thoughts to write a proper reply for this post!

Just got back from the movie... and it was pretty awesome.

It's definitely in the top five I've seen this year.

I've enjoyed Christopher Nolan's work starting with Memento, but I'm also becoming a fan of Bale. Jackman and Bale give solid performances, but Caine shines just as bright. Oh, and compared to The Black Dahlia, Johannson is a lot more tolerable here.

A-

Yeah, I didn't completely understand it either, so thank goodness my brother was watching it too.

Ohhhh, I'm with you. It's incredible that a movie that relies on secrets NEVER gets old. It's masterful, really. I love it more every time I watch it! The performances were perfect. Ugh, I want to watch it right now!

Cool! I'd love to read the book someday.

Watched it earlier on today. God, what an incredible movie. I was in suspense scared for most of it. Especially during the sabotague bits where you knew something gruesome was going to happen. I'm a wimp, I suppose - I really can't take violence onscreen. But anyway.

I thought Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale were amazing. Michael Caine, too. Scarlett Johansson, I like her, but the British accent was strange - why is there this need to change nationalities from book-to-movie?

Plot-wise...I've got a few questions, as the best movies generally do - unfortunately I don't know how to do the spoiler box thing. How, how, how? I'm desperate to ask my questions, get them answered, start discussing stuff. This movie is so intriguing. Thanks in advance :)

I saw it this weekend. I was surprised it was still at the theatre, but there it was, and I had been wanting to see it for a while.
It is easily one of the best movies I have seen all year.
Wonderful acting from everyone, even SJ (I had read several people had reservations about her) but I thought it was awesome all the way around.
I cannot WAIT until it comes out on DVD.

I am still absolutely, mindblowingly in love with this movie :sigh: I don't think that feeling will ever fade, for me. It's honestly one of the best movies, if not THE best movie I've ever seen.

I'm reading the book now, and without telling you too much, it differs a lot from the movie

That’s a really good point, Mavericks – I actually saw the film again for the second time and this is what I think:

[sp]I think that Angier - or his clone (more on this later) – did frame Borden like you suggested and did not appear on the balcony like he usually does with this trick. So everyone in the audience, who didn’t know about the drowning device, thought Borden killed him….see now my question is, was it Angier himself or his clone that cooked up this whole scheme? Ultimately it doesn’t matter what happens to Borden, but I am really wondering if the original Angier was the one who was killed or was it the clone when he uses Tesla’s machine the first time?? What do you think? is it the original Angier that lives on or his clones? You should definitely see it again because it made me love the movie even more after being able to figure out some things I missed the first time around.[/sp]

Very rewatchable. I'd mark it up there were Mission Impossible. The plot had so many turns that you need to watch it a few times to get it down.

P.S. Is it too big? Sorry. I don't know how to resize it.

Nolan has such an amazing style with which he shoots his films. I haven't read it but apparently the book is really good. I'm very interested to see how Nolan is going to make this look on film. Good, no doubt :)

Can't wait for this movie. :). Nolan has definitley become one of my favourite directors. Love Bale...not so sure about Jackman...but hey, this being a Nolan film, I think it'll be the movie itself that shines and not just an individual.

Freddie that is so cool.

I love this film too. It is highly entertaining :) But I have this question that really bugs me and I can't sleep because of it (hehe). So if anyone could answer it it is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

[sp] Remember the part where Borden was accused of murder because he went downstairs and saw Angier (presumably a clone) drowning? Borden tried to save the drowning Angier. But, for the trick to work, the prestige is another Angier revealing himself onstage, with lots of people watching. So why was Borden accused of murder (downstairs) when the audience saw the prestige Angier onstage? OR did the prestige Angier even showed himself onstage? If not, how did the prestige Angier know NOT to appear to finish the act and frame Borden that night?

This is the reason why I wanted to watch it again. 3 days after and I still can't stop thinking about the film. I don't have a life these days :p [/sp]
