The Prestige atop the box office this weekend with $14.8 million.

Yes. It's actually one of my favorite novels.

The book is still in stores here in Sydney. I just checked yesterday. Will need to go buy a copy :),

I just got back from seeing this movie. I thought it was great. I kind of thought it was going to be confusing with all the jumping around, but it was pretty easy to follow. :)

Thanks :)

So I can't remember what I wanted to say, now that I've gotten the spoiler tags :goof: but it really is a great film. Constantly surprising, deliciious twist, great acting, had Thom Yorke at the end as well...what more do you want in a film ;) I was turned off by the gory bits though. I can't take gore, even suggested gore.

Oh, right-

[sp]I think it was Angier who lived, and his clone who died - why would he want to go on if he died? In that case it'd be like him and the actor after all. Question, though: at the very end, was it me imagining things or did the second clone - the third Angier (the first one died when Borden "killed" him, the second [the real Angier - or was that a clone?] when Borden's brother shot him in the warehouse) - blink his eyes? The very last shot of Angier (or clone) standing in the shadows. Or was it in the cupboard. I don't remember. Anyway, did he bilnk his eys? Did he come alive? Was there even something in there that became alive? Because if he did, then it throws up interesting questions of just how many clones there are out there (in the film, anyway) and who then the real Angier was.

So in this case, it would be Angier who cooked up the idea, the main man - of course I am biased by my thinking, that I feel clones cannot think and so all the evidence of intelligence is the real Angier. In going into Tesla's machine, the real Angier comes out in the end (remember, he wanted the machine because he didn't want the actor to be basking in the limelight) and a clone is created, which is then killed by drowning...and because I assume the clone has no intelligence, the clone then has no way of wrecking the party, so to speak.[/sp]

Hope that made sense.

I know! Everytime I watch it I can't wait to find out "the secrets" all over again! It's just a great puzzle. :sigh:

I'm always amazed I didn't realize Borden had a twin and that one of the one was already inside the house when he says to Sarah, "you think that little lock can keep me out?" and he walks out, and when she opens the door, he's there offering her tea. It's SO obvious! :D But that's the beauty of the movie.

The scene when he says to Sarah's nephew, "The secret impresses no one." takes a new meaning after the movie ends. It's such a well crafted film.

The book sounds good! Generally, I like to read the book before watching the movie, but for this one, I'm SO happy I wasn't spoiled!

Overall I liked The Illusionist better, but I do agree that they are two very different movies so they really shouldn't be compared. Both are worth seeing.

Bale was fantastic!!

I love that he was amazing, especially when his performance was so fine and hidden through the movie. Then when it ends, you really appreciate what he did.

Only thing is the book went out of print some years ago. So finding it in a bookstore or even a library may not be an easy task.

But it is a great book. :D

I just saw it and thought it was good! I saw the Illusionist a while back, and while I know some people are going to compare the two, I really feel they are completely different movies, but well done and worth seeing! I think Christian is wonderful in anything and he is here as well. I always Like jackman and Caine as well. Scarlett I can take or leave and this is no exception!

I found the first twenty minutes a little confusing as they changed between the present and past, but once I got a handle on that, it turned into a great movie. I would be very interested to read the book...maybe it might give me a few more answers I need...

for those that read the book...was it good??

Man, what a great movie. I'd probably have enjoyed it more had I not read the book, since the major twists were intact for the movie. Like I already knew Borden's secret beforehand figured out exactly how that was used about halfway into the film or so. Meh, oh well. Still a great movie. Christian and Hugh did such a great job.

I was amused by how much people were talking about the movie even after the credits finished. During the movie, some people were like 'What the hell is going on?! Huh?' especially toward the end. But once it was all over and everything was revealed, people were still talking about it. Quite a large crowd too.

I'll be seeing it again sometime in the coming weeks, since one of the girls in my hall wants to go but couldn't come with the group I gathered today. Sweet.

I thought it was comical too that the british actors were putting on american accents while the american's were putting on english or whatever accents!...lol ;)

This is one of the greatest movie I've seen last year, although in the beginning I didn't have a clue as to what was going on
I agree that Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale were awesome

I totally agree. That really is amazing. Most movies like this one can be good one time, but once the secrets are revealed they're kind of spoiled. Like you said, this one just keeps getting better and better. And I am personally intrigued to find all of the little clues throughout the movie, when I watch it.

Plus, I just love the performances and everything. It's just.. perfection. Which is why I never get tired of seeing this movie

You should read the book, it's very good. It adds a couple of extra layers to the movie, so to speak. And it's definitely best to watch the movie before one reads the book, cause otherwise the movie would be entirely spoiled, of course

Just watched this movie again with my sis last week. Great movie, christian bale is amazing :in_love:

The book is written by Christopher Priest.

I'm thinking Nolan will stay pretty faithful to his story and make this one a winner.

I saw it, and loved it! I loved Hugh, Christian, and Michael! And, Nolan is just such a great director!
