The Prestige *Major Spoilers* do not read if haven't seen it

Saw it in san diego. Beautiful mall there because they have perfect weather all year long that its an outside mall that lights up at night. To me this movie was one of the few movies worth seeing after all the crap hollywood puts out today.

They are completely different films and not at all alike. The Presige is dark and not a happy film, whereas The Illusionist is somewhat of a love story. Both are very good.

___

I knew Bowie was "Tesca (o?)" but I really could not recognize him for some odd reason.

wow - what a brilliant film - really enjoyed it - I think they highlighted the "twist" quite early on in the film but I don't think many people when I was watching it picked up on it - would recommend it to others though - Bowie looked like he had put some weight on which is why Aerick might not of reconised him

MAJOR SPOILERS

I think he was most definitely a twin. Right from the start, Borden had the trick all lined up but said he wasn't ready to perform it yet. He was too poor then to have paid Tesla for a machine (not to mention that Tesla's assisstant denies ever making such a machine for Borden). Plus Borden admits that he sent Angiers on a wild goose chase after Tesla.

More importantly, I think we see that the two Borden's are totally different, whereas Angiers and his clones are so similar that it doesn't make a difference which of them dies. But there's a more risky Borden, who loves Olivia, keeps going after Angiers, ties the dangerous knot, and enRAB up in prison, then there's the sensible Borden who loves Sarah and genuinely doesn't know which knot was tied.

Plus, if Borden had gone to Tesla for a clone and then sent Angiers after him, he wouldn't spend so long agonising over how Angiers was doing the trick. There was a scene where he shouted at his disguised brother "Why can't you figure it out?" and the frustration seemed very real to me.

My question in return is: did Michael Caine know about the twin? He didn't seem surprised at the end, and he had always said it was a simple trick with a double, but did he actually know?

I agree with the twin although there were quite a few twisty turny moments when reading the IMDB board on this.

Unfortunately that means that Borden sent Algiers on a wild goose chase (to the USA) but it just happened to be the only guy in the world who could have solved the problem (bowie) - it's a bit of a stretch but fair enough.

I assumed Michael Caine didn't know until the end but that bit (and the bookend at the start) were from the same time frame which happend after the hanging and everything came out

Cane would have know Borden was wrongly sentenced when he saw Antiers was still alive.

Great movie I was hoping to watch it again last might but will do so on Sunday

I did enjoy the film however, firstly Sarah (Bale's wife) was a really terrible actor and so was Bowie to an extent, well his accent was terrible.

Regarding the twist, was this supposed to be a big secret, it was obvious from when you saw Bale's twin/clone for the first time in the fake beard and padding etc.

I also think it was a clone not a twin, its far too much of a coincidence that Bale would send Jackman to Tesla and he just so happens to be able to make a cloning machine...

What a great movie, enjoyed every minute of it, cant wait to see it again. Requires you to concentrate the whole time but provides plenty of clues along the way to work out what's going on (i.e. when Sarah says "somedays I believe you mean it when you say you love me, other days it seems fake" etc).

The film is also a social study and the lengths at which a person will go in persuit of their goals. For Angier, a Lord, it was all about the Prestige, he wanted the applause and the adulation, he couldnt stand sharing it with anyone else especially with a clone of himself (found this out when his actor double always took the Prestige and resulting attention). As a result he was willing to sacrifice himself each time when performing the act (he bought the story from Caine about drowning being like a calm way to meet death). Bale on the other hand, of more a working class modest background, was happy to share his life with his twin, both being able to live side-by-side trying to make enRAB meet. One brother being obsessed with his magic whereas the other more family oreintated. Obviously sharing a life wouldnt easy especially sharing a wife and child and this finally told.

But I'm such a retard, took me a while to work out some of the details of the twist but got there in the end :)
