What does everyone think of them?the first movie is a classic and has some very creepy moments,i remember screaming the house down as a kid when i saw the scientist rippin his face off lol there has also been some controversy surrounding these movies,4 people died during the trilogy including the movies star heather o rourke.

the first one is excellent - so well made and is certainly a well scary movie.

I think the scene you refering to is when the dad rips his face off - and its from the second one
which is very good also.

however - the 3rd one isnt good at all. and more of a testament to the young actress, Heather O Rouke who died whilst filming it.

there is a supposed curse with the films - 5 deaths. but its just coinstance!

The first one is really good, it's quintessential Spielberg and there's some controversy over whether it was actually directed by him and not Tobe Hopper (he was under contract somewhere else at the time and could only officially act as producer). It's like Close Encounters of the Third Kind with ghosts.

I like the second one best for some reason, but I'd love to see a director's cut. There were over 20 minutes left on the cutting room floor to reduce the running time, including the famous toaster scene.

Third one, not so much. And by the way that's a body double in the final scene, the ending was reshot on studio orders two days after Heather O'Rouke died.

Wow thanks for the pic,i didnt know anything was cut from the 2nd movie,im gonna see what i can dig up lol Rev Kane is the creepiest dude ever!i really enjoyed part2 also, they should give the whole trilogy a special box set release with all the xtras on each movie,

I loved 1 and 2. Rev kane freaks me out when he's walking up the path singing. I still get scared now lol. I didn't enjoy the 3rd one

I didn't know of that issue with the director, just looked at Tobe Hoopers CV on IMDB and it does seem unlikely a director with his "talents" would come up with a classic film like Poltergeist.

Poltergeist is completely out of place on Tobe Hooper's CV. I think most people would agree that Poltergeist is a Spielberg film in everything but name.

for some reason, i got mixed up with the dad drinking the haunted maggot in the spirit bottle - and then i thought he ripped his own face off!! its been at least 16-17 years since i last saw them. got well into them at the time - had them all recorded from the telly :o for a little while.
something i used to do in my early teens!!
the first one is terrifing.
the older girl in the first one, Dana, was battered to death by her boyfriend. he only got 3 yrs for manslaughter.
THe little ghost hunter lady from all 3 died only this year.
And Julian Beck, the Rev Cane died soon after making Poltergist 2 of stomach cancer. he was actually quite ill at the time of filming.
and of course - poor Heather. who died quite suddenly after a brief stint of illness - she had Crohn's disease from what i can gather and died of complications of this. it was rumoured she haunted the studio where the movies where filmed!
her tomb is a stop on the Hunted Hollywood tour.

The actor who plays the dad voiced Mr Incredible in the Incredibles recently!!!

Yeah that worm scene was prett gross lol,i didnt know till recently about Dominique, pretty sad she seemed like a nice girl, its shocking that he only got 3 years, seems very unfair.

the first one is creepy for the clown doll and the tree
the second one has the creepy preacher guy that scares my daughter more now than me when younger
the third one I can only remember watching once and had something to do with mirrors

I also found Kane very scary and had nightmares about him as a child...even now I sometimes have to stop myself imagining he's outside the house.

But I wonder...what is the rating on this film? And how did we all see it as children?!! I certainly was in primary school I'm sure when I saw this
