the police towed my car which was suppose to be junked do i have to redeem it even

if i don't want the car? my car was suppose to be junked so i took the license plates off and left in the street ready for a tow to come and get it. Well days later i receive a letter from the police saying that they were the ones that towed the car and that i had three tickets, one for not having license plates, the other for not being register, and the other one for abonden the car. Well i went to court and i fixed those tickets but now i don't know if i have to redeem the car from where the police towed it to. I went to the place today and i told them to junked the car, that i don't want it but they said that i have to take the car out and pay storage for the 18 days that it has been there. Each day is 75 dollars. I told them i have no money and that i don;t want the car because its broken and its junk. They say they will sue me if i don't get the car out and pay storage for all those days. What can i do? I wanted that car to be junked in the first place because it does not even run, the transmission is broken. How bad can this sue be? Will my license be affected just by not taking the car out?
