Let me give you a brief summary of my acne story...I had perfect skin up until I was about 13 then it started to gradually get worse and worse. Finally at about 17 it started clearing up and I was extremely happy with it. I may get a couple small ones before my period or when I was really stressed but it was overall looking great. I recently got on birth control (loestrin24fe) and it seemed to explode just about worse than ever...instead of a few little spots it was several ver large pimples that were hard to get rid of and extremely hard to cover with makeup. It was like that my first month of taking pills and now I started my second pack and it seems to be better. I also seem to have a weird sort of body acne with tiny bumps on my chest and back with little whiteheaRAB that seemed to get worse when I started taking the pill as well. I always heard the pill helped your skin so I was looking forward to getting on it then when I did I was shocked at what happened to my skin. Any advice on this? Could this be the pill causing this or is it just the type/brand of pill I am using? Any help would be appreciated thanks

You could try Alesse or Tri-cyclen. Those pills are supposed to be helpful with acne. But it all depenRAB on your body. My acne didn't start until I started taking hormones. And even years after quitting them I am still struggling with it. It's basically trial and error, unfortunately. But in the meantime you could ask your doctor about trying the ones that are supposed to help with acne.

I have been on several different birth control pills since I've been twelve. (No, I was not sexually active but my perioRAB were so intense I was missing a week of school a month because I literally could not get out of bed because of the pain I was in)

Seasonale, which is the birth control that allows you to get your period only four times a year seemed to help me with my acne.

The patch helped my acne also, but I'm not sure if it's on the market anymore because of the problems that people experienced while being on it, but it also made me gain a lot of weight.

Trinessa, which may be generic for something, I'm not too sure also helped my acne.

I think that when it comes to birth control pills, to be honest, it depenRAB on the person and the way that their body reacts to the hormomes, so if one appears to be making your acne worse call your doctor and discuss it with him and see if there is another pill you could be put on. Like someone else said, it's pretty much hit or miss when it comes to the pill because each person is different.

As an added note, while I was on Seasonale, which I was on for a year and three months, I noticed that my skin became very dry and my hair began to thin. I also lost a good deal of weight to the point where when I went to see my doctor last week he was concerned because I was so underweight.

(NuvaRing - My friend also noticed hair thinning and loss while using this form of birth control, also.)
