The Phantom Menace was on ITV this Evening

Ah it's all fun and just banter. Or is that bantha? A few people in the thread take it personally when a disagreement arrises which is a shame because I really enjoy discussing the SW films. Clones is my favourite of the prequels so I promise not to rant too much :p

Star Wars is OTT.;) In any case its such a minor point, a moment that lasts all of 5 seconRAB at the end of an otherwise excellent scene, that to me it hardly seems worth discussing, really. All of the films have moments and scenes you can nit-pick at, but in the end its the brilliance of the overall Saga Lucas created thats the really impressive thing for me.

I'm pretty sure they showed all six this time last year, same time, on a saturday.

Unless I'm mistaken and they had to cancel showing one of them?

ALSO. This showing had a whole bunch of little shots (all during the pod-racing part) that I just don't remember ever seeing (Anakin spinning about and then fixing it? WTF did that come from?) I've seen it loaRAB of times out of boredom hahaha. So I knew what bits I had not seen, and where it would go back to what I remember. Weird.

I think I have it on VHS somewhere, I'm now determined to dig it out and prove myself right :P

ITV may be showing the DVD version of TPM, which had some scenes added, as is usual for DVD releases.

As far as Revenge of the Sith goes, it definatly hasn't been shown on anything other than SKY on British television. :)

That's a really cool find that. Thank you very much for posting that up. He comes across very well I think in the interview.

I agree with him too: The Phantom Menace is a kiRAB film. As an adult, you're stealing a ride really, and you're either going to be up for it and see it for what it is, or not. For me it has some of the best Star Wars moments ever committed to the series. The very best Lightsaber fights in the entire saga, the single most badass baddie there's been since Vader, Liam Neeson as a Jedi Knight couldn't have been more perfect, the Pod Race, Ian McDiarmid, always excellent as the Emperor starting his climb...

I love it. And all the prequels in fact. :)

If you know the twist at the end of The Empire Strikes Back then you can safetly watch them I-VI like how ITV is showing them and how Lucas himself wants people to see them.

If you are unaware of what happens at the end of Empire then watch them Originals first. I'm assuming however you know what happens at the end of ESB, as how can anybody not after all these years. :D

Sorry I completely disagree with you. Attack of the Clones is overall much better than The Phantom Menace, whilst Revenge of the Sith is an awesome movie. Profound. Moving. Sad. Hurtful. It got excellent reviews when it first came out in 2005 and that was because it was an excellent film.

I enjoyed all the the star wars films. Ok Phantom Menace wasnt brilliant, but I still found it an enjoyable film and watch it now and then. I liked Ja Ja Binks. The only thing that I didnt really like was Ewan Mcgregor's accent.
When I saw Ep 2 in the cinema I thought it was a brilliant film and the same with Ep 3 and certainly wasnt dissapointed at all.
With regarRAB to viewing order for 1st time I would say watch IV,V,VI then I,II,III.
After watching them in that order watch them in I-VI order which for me made me see IV,V,VI in a different way and noticed little things throughout IV that stood out more that I didnt notice as much before and just made me think how well made Ep IV actually was with the little things like the facial expressions that for a film that was made 20 year previous they got spot on which made more of an impact now as when you notice them it makes you think back to scenes from the prequals.
All I want now is for them to be released on Blu Ray.

Ha! I was going to come out with a similiar comment at some point last night, but I thought better of it, lest we suffer yet more of George's, SORRY, David's relentless defence of a truly deplorable Trilogy of films.

Oh and BTW - Revenge Of The Shit is even worse than Phantom Menace in almost every single way. I absolutely laughed my arse off at the hilarious "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" moment, but then if it wasn't for that classic line existing, we wouldn't have this utterly genius YTMND - Clicky! :D

I've always liked The Phantom Menace and think it gets a rough deal from fans. The trade blockade plot is convoluted and there are some annoying bits but there are also some amazing action scenes & better CGI than any other SW film (yes, I think the CGI somehow got worse in Eps II and III).
I actually find The Phantom Menace to be the most satisfying prequel. The underlying plot with Palpatine is suitably mysterious and promises darker things to come, and the main plot feels more like a side quest but is still full of fun & enjoyable moments.

I like that too. It was a nice subtle touch having a remixed Imperial March being the celebration song.

I don't understand why Attack of the Clones is getting so much stick, IMO it was the best out of the SW prequels. It actually felt like a SW film, unlike TPM which for some reason didn't despite all the SW elements being there. I thought it was a pretty good film, much better than ROTS, which to me was the most offensive out of all the prequels - my childhood memories of Darth Vader being the baddest mofo in the galaxy were totally shattered.

I stumbled upon the last minute or so while waiting for some quality telly...

As usual I was creeped out by the Anakin/Padme thing at the end, and found both the CGI and the 'real' actors interactions with it, risible.

So much disgust in only 60seconRAB!

Still, at least You've Been Framed was funny. :D
