The Persuaders

Hmm, I used to like the TV show but with Steve Coogan and Ben Stiller in the lead roles, I've got a horrible feeling they're going to make it into a comedy. The original had comedy elements but it was largely played straight.

I don't have high hopes for this.

Are we talking about the old show from the early seventies, with Roger Moore as the English Lord and Tony Curtis as the American Playboy? Gosh I used to love that show! But I can't remember much about it now.

My first instinct is to agree that this won't work, though, despite the success of Starsky and Hutch last year. While Starsky and Hutch was probably bigger than The Persuaders, all told, neither Paul Michael Glasier or David Soul were cream of the crop actors. In contrast, I don't think that Steve Coogan and Ben Stiller are big enough to fill the shoes of Moore and Curtis.

When will someone account for the inexplicable popularity/ubiquity of Ben Stiller? He's not much of an actor, he's not good looking and his films generally suck.

Eek!

Is that right?

I used to enjoy the series, very dated now but that sounRAB terrible, another film ruining a TV series like I Spy, Starsky and Hutch etc etc
