The Passion of the Christ

Here is an excerpt from an article posted on Christianity Today regarding the "ugly baby":

I definetly felt that if the story was told in English, some of the effect and power of the story would be lost.

I am glad they used the native languages.

I saw this movie last night and found it to be one of the powerful experiences of my life. As I watched the suffering of Jesus, all I could think was, "He did it for me. ME! Completely horrible and unworthy person that I am, and he went through all of that because he loved me."

As fas as anti-semetic concerns, I honestly found that for every Jew yelling "Crucify Him!" there was one asking them to stop or crying because of the horror of it. The point, to me, is that individuals are responsible for their own evil choices, not a whole race of people. And Pilate didn't seem to be afraid of the Jews, he seemed to be afraid of Caesar. But these are just my opinions regarding the controversy.

God Bless You All!

i saw this move today and i loved it i thought it was amazing! i don't know what else to say but that it really makes you think about life and things like that.

I don't think that I have ever been as moved as I was tonight when I went to see the "Passion of Christ". I was very unsure if I wanted to see if due to knowing the story and not wanting to see horrible brutal scenes but I am so glad that I saw it because now I have a better understand of the sacrifice that Jesus went through

Exacctly what I said earlier! Also SASHA that last picture makes me shutter still!

Thank you so much for responding! Your and shevrae's responses have really helped me. I also like reading reviews from people who don't think of themselves as Christians - it gives an interesting perspective.

I think DCCreekFreak has raised some interesting questions, but I also agree that Mel Gibson cast an incredible actress to play Mary (who was Jewish, so it makes sense to cast a Jewish actress), and deferring to her on certain Judaic issues (so some articles that followed the making of the film claim).

I admit that I have questions myself about Mel Gibson, but that's not going to stop me from seeing the film. A Lena Wurtmueller (sp?) film would cause similar interest for me - and I'd see it with open eyes.

What bothers me is the fact that because Mel Gibson made a film about Jesus, people seem to think he should be applauded and shouldn't be questioned for his views (not everyone here, but some people). So he made a film about Jesus and it was graphic - big deal in the sense that it's no reason for us NOT to question Mel Gibson's intentions. Does that make sense? He's not beatified for making the film (and shouldn't be). It is, after all, a movie - a form of entertainment, and people could say that Mel Gibson is wrong for profitting off the suffering of Jesus. I don't take that view, but you can see how people could...

i am really keen to see this movie.

I am proud of mel gibson to take such a risk and make a movie like this. Thumbs up to him i say.

Can I snag this one?

I'll be seeing this monday morning..

My review will be posted on Wednesday morning.

oh my goodness, i could not agree with you more.
Thankyou so much for saying that!

It was a heart warming movie that isn't far from the truth, although Jesus probably went through worse stuff than that.

That's how I felt. Some parts I couldn't watch because it was just breaking my heart.

I loved that too. I really put you into the time, really made you feel like you were there. I had no trouble watching a scene and reading the subtitles.

Well, when asked if there was a Holocaust according to him, he answered this:

"I have friends and parents of
friends who have numbers on their arms. The guy who taught me Spanish
was a Holocaust survivor. He worked in a concentration camp in France.

Yes, of course. Atrocities happened. War is horrible. The Second
World War killed tens of millions of people. Some of them were Jews in

concentration camps. Many people lost their lives. In the Ukraine,
several million starved to death between 1932 and 1933. During the
last century 20 million people died in the Soviet Union."

Comparing the unfortunate matters of famine and disease with men brutally murdering innocent people just because of who they are just seems wrong.

I hope that you guys are right though.

the movie! It was beautiful... It wasn't cheesy! But my one criticism is that the ending was a bit choppy... Cried a lot...

thank you for saying that! I was confused by that scene and I've been wondering what that was meant to be ever since I saw the film... that makes so much sense, I can't believe I didn't make that connection...

See I never saw the baby as a "mock (Look I have a baby too - from Satan to Mary)," when I saw the baby the I immediately thought of the profescy regarding the anti-christ.

amen to that & the rest you said!

i'm not from the us so as far as bush & religious fanatics & iraq & 911 are concerned, that's not really too much of a topic over here. not concerning this movie anyways. and the entire anti-semitism-drama is just ridiculous, imo. but the religious fanatics are going crazy. i read the guestbook & people are going nuts before they had a chance to even see the movie.
unfortunately, i won't have a chance to see it before april 9 so i can't judge it. but it's definitely a must-see & i can't wait to see it.
