Now it's been released, I thought I'd start a new thread on it for anyone who's seen it to post their opinons, or any reviews anyone manages to track down.

I don't go to the cinema much but I'm really looking forward to this film (adored the book) - a bit worried they'll make a mess of it though!

no but cant wait the trailer made it look great and shame missed out on oscar glory really.... atonement should neve rhave been up for any I just didnt get it:confused::confused:

I don't think it's out yet, March 7th i believe.
Really looking forward to seeing this, Eric Bana is a great actor IMO, and the book is great, so i hope the film lives up to that.
Going to see it next Saturday.:)

I've been reading some American reviews and they seem rather split - some good but some quite bad. The criticisms are that its a Just another lavish, soap opera type, historical romp, only loosely based on the book. Others liked it saying its well acted, well produced & very entertaining.

I'm going to give it a go at the weekend. I liked the book and really don't mind this kind of film if its well done.

Even though it was sneered at by critics (and I know it was a bit silly really), I enjoyed the recent series The Tudors' - and 'Rome' come to that.

Mind you, Henry V111 for me will always be Richard Burton in 'Anne of a Thousand Days'.

I love these period dramas and the Tudor era is one of my favourite eras of English history so this is certainly a film I want to see although i'll probably wait untill it's on Sky or DVD.

My heart sank when I saw it would be starring 3 foreigners. Henry VIII with an American accent - pul-eeese.
So, do the Boleyn girls and Henry speak with British accents?
Thanks for any input

I'm the same, I just don't see why they couldn't have cast one of the many British actors out there in it. Very odd . Not that I would want to see it anyway, not my type of film I think.

I saw the movie (it came out March 29th here in the US. I was a huge fan of the book. I love the Tudors, and any kind of historical drama like that.

But I didn't like the movie. For the first half of the movie, the story moved so slow. And then they rushed through years of history in 30 minutes or under. The character development wasn't good. Henry's character, in particular, was sadly underwritten.

I also don't think Portman can do a believable English accent. Her accent kept slipping. Even as an American, I could tell it wasn't a good accent.

But there were plenty of English actors in the film. Most of the cast, writers, director were British. Just because the three leaRAB weren't shouldn't take away from the story. Actors play characters of different nationalities all the time. Portman, Johansson and Bana were probably cast because their name recognition. It seems to have worked, as it had a decent opening (8.3 million on just over 1,000 screens here in the US/Canada.)

I am going to see this on Friday, the reviews arent brilliant a lot of 2*s so far but i am going to make up my mind,i loved the Tudors but my benchmark as far as any film on this subject is Anne of the Thousand days, that was really good:)

Apart from their hair colour I think personality wise they should of switched roles Scarlett Johanson is hot and a minx, while Natalie Portman is more a rose.
