Star Wars, the original should have won.

E.T....i can't believe that never won anything.

Yup. I have both movies on DVD and I could watch both all day.

I thought Moulin Rouge would've deserved an Oscar if it won. ;)

In my opinion Life as a House is not really an Oscar film. It could've been had the second half of the movie been less contrived and soapy. Also the script doesn't take its time to flow, things just keep on happening as expected. I also have it on DVD and love to watch it :D
 
They were awesome weren't they?

Dwight OWNED his role and poured everything into it. He was relentless, brutal and somewhat funny, but man, talk about a harsh character. He was awesome and was snubbed big time. It wasn't just a role, that deserved to be nominated, he deserved to win.

Michael too, I loved him in the Green Mile. IMHO, he, MCD, and Doug, stood out more then Tom Hanks, IMHO. I love Tom, but they were the one's that owned that movie, IMHO.

Also about Reese in WTL. I love and adore Reese. I have loved her since The Man In The Moon, which her performance in that movie, is her best to date IMHO, beside's Freeway and Legally Blonde. Walk The Line wasn't her best IMHO. Yeah, she sang and acted in it, but I didn't see Oscar worthy. I have seen better performances, go unnoticed and unawarded and I can't help but ask Why? Maybe it was her charm and charisma, that earned her the award and not so much her acting, cause I'v seen her act better. Just watch the Man In The Moon, if you haven't. That was her first role ever and she outshined the whole cast. So, IMHO, I don't really feel, she actually deserved to win it. Now, that is just MHO. I'm not saying she can't act, I'm just saying, I'v seen her in better roles.
 
Back to the Future or Raiders of the Lost Ark...I know why they didn't win but I personally think they've stood the test of time and should've won!

ahhh, i don't agree with u cos i think in Titanic, leo was just a handsome charming guy. he didn't show much of his skills except his pretty face. but looking at his efforts during these years, from aviator to tthe shutter island, he is very likely to win an oscar.
 
I'm obviously a Reese fan, heh, but I was extremely upset that Joaquin didn't get the Oscar as well. I don't really feel one has all that much to do with the other, though, you know? They were up against very different actors/roles, so Reese not winning as well wouldn't have changed Joaquin not getting it. At least that's how I see it. I will say, though, that Joaquin was most definitely the stand out of that movie, without question. His character was just much more fleshed out, as it should've been, but Reese's win wasn't at all undeserved, IMO.

I haven't seen Transamerica, either, so I can't compare performances.
 
ITA with "The Shawshank Redemption" being at the top...that was an excellent movie. And the only other ones that I can speak for would be "E.T." and #6-9.

"The Wizard of Oz" just got a raw deal, because like mr. simpatico said, that was a jam-packed year (1939). In fact, there has never been another year like it since, as I recall.

Um...how about a big NO to "Psycho" being on the list. That's like saying it was unjust for something like "The Ring" or "The Exorcist" to not get nominated. Not many horror flicks are Oscar-worthy. Period.
 
I go back and forth on this. Reese gave an outstanding performance, but I'm bitter Joaquin didn't win so... I really don't know. :lol: Also, I didn't watch Transamerica so I can't compate the two, either.
 
Ha---I saw Michael Clayton a few days before the Awards show and I was the only one in the theatre. One of the reasons I stayed so long was I was texting a friend throughout the movie and I don't believe in walking out of a theatre....:lol:
 
I love both movies also, perhaps MR slightly more because Im a sucker for a good romance. But really, I thought Chicago was amazing and it just felt like a more Oscar-y type of film.

And am I the only one disappointed with Reese Witherspoon's win for 'Walk the Line'? I thought it was a good performance, but not Oscar worthy, in fact Jaoquin to me was by far the standout in that film. I haven't seen 'Transamerica' but from what I've heard Felicity Huffman was fantastic in it and deserved it more.
 
I didn't like Michael Clayton at all. I don't even think I made it all the through before I turned it off.
 
I agree. The original Star Wars was...beyond the Oscars...in a galaxy far, far away. :D


The Shawshank Redemption was so good. I was so moved all through the film. I remember not really looking forward to another 'prison' film ( My partner dragged me to see it with him), boy was I pleasantly surprised.


Now I liked Forrest Gump but Shawshank Redemption totally wiped Gumps butt all over the floor. :)
 
I definitely agree that It's a Wonderful Life should've won an Oscar; it's one of the best movies ever made.
 
I agree with almost your entire post! Natalie and Clive were fantastic in Closer (the movie reviewer in my local paper said that Natalie was miscast...he's a moron) and should have won for their roles.

Forest was great in The Last King of Scotland---but he was a supporting role.

Judi Dench should have won for Notes on a Scandal---she was creepy brilliant.

Amy Ryan should have won over Tilda Swinton. I was completely shocked when Tilda won---I had just seen Michael Clayton like 2 days before and she was okay in the movie.


And yes, don't get me started on Jennifer Hudson.......
 
Gladiator was a very good film, so is Forrest Gump. I have no problem with either of those films winning.

NOT ON THE LIST...Star Wars??? Give me a break, Should have won hands down, but don't mention the "F" word to the academy:look: That's why I was so pleasantly surprised to see LOTR ROTK win last year. Maybe the "tide" is changing now, and ALL movies regardless of what they are "categorized" as will have a chance to win the best picture category.

Star Wars was and is one of the most revolutionary films of all time. Not only b/c of the techonology invented during and for this film and then the next two that followed, but to create a multi-generational modern day myth is simply unheard of nowdays. George Lucas is I dare say a "modern" day Tolken. Star Wars swept away a generation of fans and continues to be one of the most successful franchises of all time.

:lol: I had to look it up. Apparently Jack Nicholson won in 97. I agree with you 100%, though. I'm not the biggest Leo fan, but he did excellent job in Titanic.
 
I love Some Like It Hot.

I'll have to think about it more to make my own top 10 never to win list.
