The Orphanage

I agree with you.

I thought it was spooky more than scary, but the storyline was great.

I posted a thread about this a few days ago as a highly recommended movie to see.

I watched the subtitled version and wasn't in the least put off. I'm not sure if the movie being screened at the cinema has an English sound track

The scares originate from the suspense, which I found quite intense until the end. Sure afterwarRAB looking back (the story having been resolved) it doesn't seem so bad, but having just watched it through for the first time I think it's the scariest movie I've seen in a long time.

I'm not really seeing where people are drawing comparisons with Pan's Labyrinth, other than the fact that both are spanish (if you have to make a GdT comparison then el espinazo del diablo is a lot closer) but regardless I think it's a much more complex and involving film. There are so many levels to the tragedy and no one escapes it, yet it still manages to pull off an emotional and heartwarming ending - very clever indeed.

Oh sorry to hear that. I loved it but it affected me quite deeply.

I agree it's similar to the others, but i think it's better. It's not as melodramatic. Just my opinion though, I like both movies :)

I didn't see any similarities to The Others at all in this movie.

I liked The Orphanage much better than The Others....and really didn't draw a comparison.

I much preferred The Orphanage as it leaves the viewer with more questions than answers and it's like a puzzle that leaves room for debate.

A brilliant movie that far supercedes The Others IMO.

some of the scenes made me jump but by the end of the film i found it more moving than scary

similar to the others in tone i thought?

I quite fancy it from all the reviews being good and the involvement of Del Toro, but is it not really really similar to The Devils Backbone? I love The Devils Backbone and not sure I want to see a rip off. Anyone seen both?

Finally got to see this last night and really enjoyed it. The ending did remind me a bit of 'Dark Water' but even so I loved the twist.

Some really spooky bits along the way along with some jumps - in fact the people in the row behind jumped so much when
Benigna suddenly grabbed Laura's arm after the accident and everyone thought she was dead
that it early knocked me out of my seat! :)

I'd definitely recommend it - 8/10

i saw this a few weeks ago,
i jumped up a few times.
a really good film particularly the end.

also i saw 1 of the best movies i've ever seen in my life its called jodhaa akbar. xxxlornaxxx:)

I finally got around to watching this...

I certainly enjoyed the movie, but I don't think it was fantastic by any stretch. The acting was pretty good, and none of the cast went overboard with their characterisation.
But as most have mentioned, there were many comparisons to be had with other 'chiller' films like 'The Others' and 'Spoorloos'.

I'd also say that the number of horror clich
