The Onedin Line repeats on Tuesday 27 th

I had always though the original Robert was a little hammy but had become accustomed to him and he played the daft oaf quite well.

The new Robert will always be Bill Seaton from WTBCI to me, so I can't get my head around this new character.

Frazer was an odd one. I did think about adopting his accent as I think it could be fun. Especially his tendency to say "me", when he means "my"! (Me ship, me wife, me father etc).

Great that Yesterday seem to be showing it all the way though. I agree it is weird when they got the new actor in to play Robert. Why did that happen?

Some of the production is a bit cheap, but then it was the 1970s and so that is to be expected that it looks dated some times. The use of "foreign locations" looks a bit suspect!

Been doing a little reading on the show to try to answer some of my own questions.

I put in spoilers here just in case.

Seems that the actor playing Robert:

Felt he was being typecast. However, between series 3 and series 4 (which we will be coming up to soon) an even bigger problem was that Peter Gilmore quit as James for the same reason. They rightly decided not to recast him and axed the show for nearly three years before they persuaded him to return to the role. So there is a 3 year gap in real terms and a five year gap in the story between series 3 and 4. And they now persuaded the original actor back to play Robert, so he is set to undergo a change back soon!

Still no Digiguide listings beyond 30 September (as posted above) (post 21).

But as stated we know they are at least showing the first 4 series. So fingers crossed.

Will keep checking and once October listings are out (should be soon) then it might be clearer.

I've enjoyed the re-runs of this series, but it is a bit "am dram" in places.

Last night when James Onedin said; "Get rid of that!" indicating the dead arab shot by
Leanora, the corpse "blinked" just as the camera focussed on him.

And later, the cook who'd tragically died of his wounRAB minutes from port, "blinked" just as the camera focussed on him too!

I am really loving TOL. At the end of every episode I can't wait for the next one.

I wish they would do an omnibus at the weekend, so I could watch the weeks episodes back-to-back!

Most enjoyable tv I can remember. (Although I do remember thinking as a nipper, that it was boring rubbish)!:)
