The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

Well I don't sing worth a **** but I was wondering... can you gargle **** to make your voice deeper? My singer wants me to be backup and scream but it doesn't sound good enough for her...

Just practice one part of the song over and over. Getting their ascents and pitches right. Try to add emotions like they do. Then go for the next part untill you can sing it all the way through perfectly.

Ok, I'm 14 years old, and I have a pretty deep voice. I play in a black metal band (melodic, not the standard 3 minute speed crap), as keyboardist, and we need a vocalist. Each of us are gonna try singing, and none of us have sang seriously before.

Now, the type of vocal style I'm going for is similar to Erik from Amon Amarth, I have a fairly deep voice but it's not deep enough to sound accurately like Erik.

For reference, here's what he sounRAB like (mp3 taken off official site) on the track Death In Fire: http://www.metalblade.de/mp3/amonamarth-Deathinfire.mp3

Any way I can deepen my voice?

Just drink a lot of water and that will eventually go away. Its because your entire throat area is basically raw and completely dry from the swelling, so the more water you drink, the more that will begin to go away. If you still have that feeling tomorrow by 4, you could use some throat spray to help numb the area if absolutely necessary, but it could possible just get worse unless you keep using it over and over again so don't do that unless the pain tomorrow and coughing sensation makes it impossible to sing.

Alright I'm a drummer but I've been looking to get into singing for a long time. Mainly screaming really like Lamb of God or Blessthefall or August Burns Red. But I do it, I record it, I sound terrible. But when I'm doing it to me I think I sound good. So I was wondering if I could get some tips on what I could sing to, or what I should be doing. Thanks for any and all help.

You'd really do yourself a service if you just fixed a snack or dinner, got a drink, and sat down and read the voicehelp hotline. Its all in there.
So you know what acapella is. And as previously stated...the corRAB can only make vowels. Consanants are provided by blocking the vowel after its made with your throat, teeth, tongue, cheeks, and any combination thereof. As I said, you never hear of anyone needing help with singing a tttt or a bbbbb right? The phonetic vowels for singing are: Ay, E,I,O, and U as in boot, not dew and ah. So I was saying practice these because they are the fundamentals. And its easier to isolate things if youre not worried about shaping the mouth and everything for a specific word. And again, I'm not talking about thirty minutes. Just a few minutes. It adRAB up over a while. Just sing them, holding an ay...and rising up in pitch smoothly(gliss) like a siren and back down on one breath(smooth=legatto). then do some stacatto, which would be broken, seperated. Do scales as well...all on each vowel, paying attention to any tension or stiffness you might create, which is a no no.

Hey, uh, I was wondering if anyone knew some exercises to improve screaming stamina. Right now, I can only scream for about 10-15 seconRAB straight, and 1-2 minutes with breaks before my throat starts to hurt and I stop (don't wanna damage the poor thing >_

Ok, im the singer in my screamo/emo whatever the hell you wanna call it, and I have a very good scream and have been singing/screaming for 3 years now. But, I can only do like 7 or 8 songs then my throat starts to get raw and my screams pretty much fail me. I drink alot of water when I scream and practice all the time. Is there anything I can do, or am I stuck doing short sets? Sorry if this has been asked, I didnt feel like going through all the pages.

The only problem I have with her technique is that its hard to get as much UMPH out of it, after practicing it i've gotten way more than what I started with, so i'm assuming it'll only get better.
I'm trying to learn some other ways of screaming besides the Zen of Screaming way, and inhales.

Have any idea on when your article will be up?

1. THe average male is Baritone
2. The average female is alto
3. a baritone trying to sing like an alto will be challenging for even an advanced operatic singer.
4. 30 bucks is not alot of money.
5. Check out the voice help hotline.

So, I've been singing/screaming for about a year, but my deep growls just turn to air after a couple of seconRAB. I really want to be able to hold my growls for as long as my screams (which is basically as long as I can hold a normal note, over a minuete if I want to, but no one neeRAB to scream that long >_>;;..)

Also, I would love to be able to scream as high as Dani Filth. I know he has a freakish voice that lets him do whatever he pleases with it -_- but I can almost hit as high as him, any tips on working on it?
