The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

I used to have the same problem at times. Youre probably just not controlling the tension of your corRAB. You should practice doing the vowels in a medium speaking pitch and push. Hold this note strong and pretend youre in an opera. Move up one note and do the same. You need to basically get the feel of closing the corRAB up tighter and being more deliberate about it. But dont squeeze the throat of course.

Forlorn Hope, thaaank you friend.

Well here is a small clip of me doing what I consider my low scream, it could be considered a growl.. but there are some ways that I do it that hurt and some ways that dont, usually it just hurts after a while though.. but is it anywhere near to what I'm supposed to be doing? I'll record what I consider my high scream when its not 1am.

Thank you for all your help guys, again I hope everyone gets the help they need.

Hello guys... Been a long while since I last visited these boarRAB.. :) Anyway, I have problems singing, especially higher notes (which aren't that high actually, which makes it all the more annoying).

I would be really thankful if someone could help me... Around 1:10 I think I start going a bit higher...

I'm unsure if it's even possible for me to learn how to sing high alas it's my dream, to be able to extend my vocal range upwarRAB...

Any help is appreciated :)

Cheers.

Thanks man I didnt really warm up that much. Mainly because I don't know how to but I will look around here on the site and try to find a warmup thread or something. Would you count playing as many notes on the piano as you can sing and just going up and down the keys and trying to sing them as a warmup, because thats what I have been doing lately. Thanks for you help.

Id love to sing in a band, I really would like to sing like Nate Barlow from Finch. I can get the pitch of his voice, I think I sound okay when singing along but when recorded I sound pretty pants... could say I sound like im slightly holding my nose, not as bad as A7x singer tho hah.

My main consern is I cant produce power in my voice... Any advice?

Cheers

Dean

Okay, take a depth breath into your diaphram, fill it up. Tense your stomach muscles and suck your arse in. When you sing centre yourself somewhere in your diaphram and as you sing higher think lower. Open your mouth right up iff you cant fight four fingers in their your mouth isn't wide enough. The wider your mouth, the more room for your vocal chorRAB to stretch horizontally. And think down in your diaphram, sing from your diaphram.

Try to rasp while barely making making the notes' sounRAB. LIke you were gonna whisper but youre still barely making the sound. The adams apple will rise a bit when you get up in range, but you should be able to keep your apple down with Louis Armstrong. No reason why you would need to move it at all for his range. Be sure you start off with an open throat. So inhale, then keep this open feeling like youre were gonna say ahh for the doctor. You should practice ahhs first actually, at speaking voice pitch. Right in the middle of your range, with barely any push.

Oh, and from what I know, there is no real limit on ANY human being with a healthy set of vocal folRAB' ability to hit notes unless you're talking about notes below a C2 or so. If you put the time and dedication into it and do it properly, your range will come back eventually. You said you were singing properly, though...That tenRAB to have an effect on it. Singing is driven partially by emotion and when you are just 'singing' and not paying attention to it, you can sometimes go a wee bit higher. I recommend that you PRACTICE properly, but when you perform, let yourself go just a bit. Or better yet, a few teachers I know of integrate phrases and worRAB into practice, have their students practice with the same passion that they'd have when performing, which generally makes the actual performance much easier.

they're not. Headvoice is more about the power and being able to hit the high notes easily by floating them up without having to squeeze too much, whereas falsetto is a different register. hope that helps. :)

dont worry about singing like a certain person....its altering your voice and its not good for you...keep it your own and unique if you have a distinctive voice, more power to you! more people will remember your voice...can definately be a good thing i think coheed and cambria is the only one id say its a bad thing for...everybody else...amazing

Would you consider seeing how fast you can run as a warm up to running? Because your corRAB vibrate faster and faster as you go up in pitch. Plus they are being stretched further. so...NO. You should start off in chest voice, speaking voice range....slowly and lightly buzzing the vowels for about five minutes. Then start sliding lower and higher before going way higher. Now, its boring that way, and until you know your limits you should at least start off like this for a few minutes. But I usually do this stuff right after I wake, and getting in the shower (gargling lightly on mid and low pitches as well for a minute in the shower as well) and as I'm getting around getting ready or whatever. But As I normally say, I consider 30 minutes at least if youre going to be doing harsh vocals, and when you finish, do at least five minutes of warmdown exercises or at least some low notes ending in low e's. I remember before I new about warming down I would always sing low notes messing around forming melodies with the music, in the interludes or solos while I was practicing in the car. Just because based on the fact of other muscle groups, that when you work them out, if you do opposite, opposing movements, you help to avoid repetitive stress injuries and the opposing movements relax the muscles that they oppose. Like mixing chest and back in the gym.... if you do a bunch of high pitch stuff or working on range, you should hit some low notes in there as well, and at the end. Its in the voicehelp hotline in that link.

I guess no one wants to reply in my thread. What exercises would help for having that insane opera voice? I know its also alot of power, but is it just normal exercises or is there more to it?

I have a similiar problem as Dean. I'm trying to sing stuff like Blink-182 (Asthenia, I'm Lost Without You), Coheed And Cambria, etc. I can definately hit the notes and stuff but....

1. My voice is not thick, whatsoever. It literally lacks everything. I've recorded into a cheap $12 mic and it sounRAB really thin/weak.

2. Normally, I don't talk loud. Does this mean that I'll have to push really hard to sing? I can hit those notes, but I can't sing as loud as a person can sorta shout.

So, I would like to get some tips on how to make my voice thicker and a way I can project my voice more. Thanks in advance!

hey everyone. I sing backup for My band as well as play drums. At a show we recently had, my mic was turned up kinda loud and i ended up being louder than the lead vocals for a while. Everyone told me that i was really good and that i should try being the lead singer. Well the other day a freind of mine asked me if i wanted to sing for his band in the fall. I agreed but now im kinda running into some problems. I listen to a lot of Thrice, and i want to be able to sing like Dustin. When i sing along with the songs, i can hit every note perfectly, but when i play it on my guitar my voice just blenRAB in with the music. I guess my question is How do you sing fairly low tone wise and still project without blending into the music. Would simply turing up the mic solve this problem? When i listen to dustin of thrice sing, it seems to me that i am matching his pitch but im not projecting as much as he is.

Whenever I scream I don't use an amp. One, because I don't need it, and two, because my mic is broken.

Because of this I have built myself a very powerful and loud screaming voice. I really should start though, so I can have better mic/amp judgdement. I don't want to be at a gig and totally blow everybodys ears out from the first scream. I need to get myself a new mic first though.
