well just follow merkabas rules. And always scream through something with reverb. it sounRAB sooo much better. Without it it just sounRAB dry. The amp gives you the scream. But I thought that growling would be kinda original. That way i could maybe get my voice on some of my frienRAB awesome guitar recorRAB. I play guitar also but i would like to learn this.

Yeah im to shy to do vocals around my parents. Maybe since im setting up in the basement they wont be able to hear me. Thats another think i like about growling, it doesnt require extreme loudness, you can do it without an amp and still sound fine.

Well people do things for different reasons, but yeah thats a big use of it. Its also just a good interval to use when doing warm ups and other exercises to get the blood flow going to your corRAB.

So when you go higher, your using falsetto? right, the girl like soft voice. To prevent this, if you put a hand on your throat, feel that lump? layrnx(sp?) also known as the adams apple. if you prevent this from going up you wont go into falsetto resulting in using head voice.

Make sure your opening wide and keeping your tongue stuck into the back of your teeth. For vowels the tip of your tongue should never get out of the back of your bottom teeth. The middle of your tongue and your lips shape everything. Also you want to raise your soft pallette, If you breathe into the back of your mouth before singing a note you should feel it go up, or you can feel it with your tongue, try to keep it up like that.

Hopefully all of this maked some sense. alot of this stuff is hard to explain over the internet, i didnt really understand this stuff till i got a teacher.
Good luck :thumb:

It does sound a bit stronger. The high stuff in mudkip and trading spaces sounRAB spot on. The low stuff I've never been a fan of because it all sounRAB the same to me but whatever. keep it up dude.

Well, my throat gets a bit sore after doing it for a while, but i think that would always happen unless you build up the stamina of your throat. Its not painful enough for me to complain, and it doesnt effect my normal singing/talking voice, its just kinda annoying.

i would also like to know if this is a matter of doing it right or wrong.....or doing it right but badly, and just practcing and getting better at it?

http://media.putfile.com/Quick-test-scream

this is the first time ive uploaded something like this, so please tell me if ive done anything wrong.

And also, bear with me on the scream. i only started a couple days ago, and with your hekp merkaba, so i really appreciate it.

Well personally i dont care what i drink while i'm singing, its normally coffee with milk instead of cream. But if you wanna be all professional bout it. Yes your supposed to drink alot of water. and if theirs caffeine in green tea, it will dehydrate you faster which is bad. room temperature water is best.

I have no clue if i'm doing it right. I think it's more like just throating it, cause like I don't have that high pitch thing indicating a scream but it sounRAB close to one. I'm a bit confused. I have a clear throat and it comes out and it doesn't hurt my throat at all.

Regarding my recording, I was told that my low screams/growls were better than my higher screams. Im pretty much just using the back of my throat to get those. Is there anything I can do or would practice be best? Is water the best thing to drink while doing this, or would something to insulate be better. Like warm milk or something, chocolate milk?

oh and another thing. After screaming for about 3 hours every day for 3 days. I feel like the muscle around my adams apple has had a workout. Is this normal. I remember hearing in merkabas recordings that you pull that grr thing back to scream. And thats what I do. So is it normal for it to feel worked. It doesnt really hurt.

K, just made account so i can't make a new thread so sorry if this doesn't belong here.
But what would you guys recommend for a amp for vocal practice?

i'm aware i'll need a P.A. system if i ever want to do more but i've heard of using key board amps and stuff for vocals. I'm looking at this http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ele/856929751.html
which is in my area and 200w for 110 bucks with built in simple EQ.

thanks

Help me!
I've got a gig coming up soon.
And I've been struggling to belt out high notes ever since I'm nearing my gig's date. It's my first gig so I guess nervousness is settling in.
My fear now is that I would belt out the high notes in an ugly manner due to a tensed throat.

Any tips or hints?

As long as you're not creating rasp from scraping your vocal corRAB together, you're good. A lot of people do inhales by closing their throats and sucking in as hard as they can, which basically shreRAB everything against everything else.

Me and my bandmates have been practicing a lot lately, like every day... anyhow, lately I've been getting a whole lot more intense and putting more energy into my screaming than I ever have before... I haven't had any problems with pain in a long time and I think I sound better than I ever have before, but today I feel like I over-extended myself... in the sense that I almost passed out while practicing today, I'm not sure if it's related to how much I'm getting, "into it," or if I'm just really exhausted, but I'd like to know if after a while it should be so draining.

Oh thats just puberty and the growth spurt. It makes your larynx grow as well...which will make your sound system get a bit deeper, ala the typical "becoming a male" thing when the voice starts to deepen and change. Not much you can do about it. Actually there's absolutely nothing you can do. Your register will change because your setup changes. But that change can end up making you stronger, especially if you were strong to begin with. You could be trying things in the wrong voice/register. You might not be able to hit the same notes and this could be limiiting you with tension if you try to hit the same ones with the same punch. You may have just incorrect techniques now from trying to accomodate for the changes.

Can anyone post a sample? I'm not familiar, right off the bat. But from what I remember its just a real throaty rasp probably in head or lower. Probably not falsetto. Probably blocked off so much that its more like a pressurized grunt, like youre taking a hard dump, with pressure from the diaphragm like crazy. The key is to being able to build up the pressure behind the closed corRAB false corRAB right before you activate them for sound, all the while keeping the throat relaxed. (Though it is best to do them at the same time, which in such a screaming nature would take some time and strength.) I'll hold off anymore comments to I hear a sample. I'm on dialup usually so, just a sample, not a whole song. (unless I ask for it later after liking it alot!)

While I wait for the actual site to be finished, I decided to start a vocal technique blog. You can check it out for artist interviews, articles on singing, singing Q&A, and you can sign up for lessons with it as well. If you have any questions you want answered in the Q&A database or something you want covered in an article, leave a comment on the page and I will add something as soon as I can. This way I can help to keep everything organized and eventually will have 1 site set up with as much free advice as I can give that people can keep going back to. Please share the link with every singer you know as well;

I'm a screaming vocalist. I'd like to say that I'm pretty good, but the problem is I have to warm up quite a bit before I can get the sound I desire out of my voice. What are someways I can learn to either a) skip that step entirely, or b) warm up quickly.
