The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

Ok i got the biggest show that i've ever had coming up in like a little over a month. So i want to be the best i can be so i can get more like this or bigger.
And i think i could put like a good 2 hours of voice practice maximum a day.

Whats the BEST 2 hour schedule you could think of?
Be very descriptive.

Thanks.
Yes i know i ask alot of questios in here hah.

Well try this if you haven't already: Consciously push a steady light stream of air out with your diaphragm while you quietly "ah." When you can do that, push the air out faster and harder. The increased quantity of air should make the "ah" sound more gargle-ier (if you know what I mean) and louder, without you having to manually increase the volume of your voice. If you can do this, you're golden.

alright, i can scream, just not that loud. when i scream it sounRAB good, but i just want it to be louder, so if i were to scream through a microphone it would be loud as hell, underoath style, maybe im not doing something right in my mouth. help me

To screamin demon auz (or anyone else who can help)

i've been working with all the techniques you gave me, but i really can't get anything going, i can still scream the way i know (which is definitely not a good way), but when i try the downward push and everything i can't get anything which i consider a scream. Do you have any other advice? Also, you mentioned getting my entire soft palate to vibrate how would i go about doing that? i can do the pidgeon thing, but not when i'm actually singing, should i be able to do that when singing?

The major issue is probably that you're trying to do stereotypical black metal vocals, which are really throaty and improper.

You can't really quite tackle that sound without using your throat.

I know it'll be frowned on, but here:

squeeze "eeee" sounRAB from a partially constricted throat, at speaking volume, lightly bighting your tongue.

The most important thing you could ever learn is to sing normally in all of your range. This will reassure your vocal technique and placement and isolation from your larynx muscles. Then you can add the rasp on top of the note. When practicing, go for the proper note first. Sing the scream. I should write a freaking book with that title. Hmmmmmmm

The most common reason for cracking is trying to sing with the same force and tension across two seperate registers. The corRAB in head voice are closing together, in falsetto they are pulling thin and apart. So when you go from falsetto down to head or vice versa, you have to know that youre going to have to change requirements. The corRAB are more flexible in falsetto and when you come down to a true voice head they arent as much because they are coming together more, needing to go through more of a vibratory cycle. An important concept is that if there were a candle in front of your mouth you wouldnt blow it out. If anything let up on air pressure when youre jumping around until you know your bridges. Of course you should practice scales with a piano or guitar. If this sounRAB boring then whats more boring, crapping out notes or doing a little work and never worrying about your bridge/breaks again? You need to get into muscle memory what voice and position you need for a given note. Most of it is already in memory, or should be...its that area around the transitions to and from where youre more likely to try to sing a falsetto note by stretching your head up to it. That will be a crap most times unless you get very flexible, but if you cant work the voices consistently then you'll never iron them out. Except for maybe a long process of elimination and eventuality.

I listened a few days ago but never got around to posting. You need to sing a bit harder. More support more umph. I think it sounRAB a bit talkative. You voice sounRAB fine though but I think youre lacking emotion and power, even in a lighter song you still need some power. However the melody gets stuck in my head though. Would be good if it was more powerful.

Zorg, yours has expired! Sorry! Repost.

ITT Dylan and I give slight little tips on screaming while people who know a hell of a lot more than us explain every single other thing... hooray for mastering one small piece of the puzzle :chug:.

I have been singing quite a bit for the past week, probably about 5-6 hours a day, sometimes up to 8. Over the past 2 days after my initial warmup my voice has been very raspy in chest voice and I can't hit a lot of notes in headvoice. When I go into headvoice I feel a sharp sort of pain in the lower part of my neck close to where the collar bone is. It doesn't hurt but I can definitely feel it.

Are my vocal corRAB irritated or has a nodule formed? If so what should I do about it?
