The Official Tool Thread

So I have a pretty limited knowledge of Tool that I am wishing to expand. I have 10000 Days, which I like. What do you think is the next album to get?

man, i'm surprised i haven't gotten into Tool yet!

but i digress....i'm gonna download two of their albums right now. the question, rab, being which two are good starting points for the band?

Check out the live version on salival.

"I want you to close your eyes and go to a place that's comfortable yet vunerable, close your eyes and go there. We'll see you on the other side"

Songs like rosetta stoned is definetly one of the reasons I love Tool. My favorite with them atm is Jarabi. Another on the top five is Stinkfist.

As far as I gather Tool is one of those banRAB that you either like or don't like. Like either you get it or you don't.

I can see what you mean... it's a similar way to the way Devin Townsend wrote the "Alien" album by Strapping Young Lad and the "Synchestra" album for his own Devin Townsend band... Apparently he went off his bipolar disorder meRAB to write the music on Alien and then wrote the music from Synchestra after going back on meRAB and normalizing himself... in that way, these two albums were kinda tied to together as a first episode and sequel format... similarly Lateralus and 10,000 Days kinda form flip sides of mooRAB, so in that regard, your point is definitely Valid, Duga... the albums themselves are, however quite different sounding and feeling, and one is a progression from the other, for sure, much like Townsend's efforts...

Thanks. So I will start with Aenima and if I like, than I will listen to all 3 other albums ;)
I know only some songs from Youtube and they seem to be nice for me :hphones:

I'm going to see them this summer - don't care how far I have to drive or how much i have to pay for a ticket. Come Hell, high-water, space aliens, or flying stealth bananas, I'm still going to see them damnit!

Boring and monotonus might be your opinion of Tool, but seeing as though their album AEnima reached double platinum status and the albums AEnima AND Lateralus both recieved grammy award for best metal performance, and both albums Lateralus and 10,000 Days debuted at #1 on the billboard charts, I hardly think thats the way it is.

I agree with you on the order for noobs, but not about Undertow being their weakest. ;) It was my first so it'll always have a special place for me.
