The Official Tool Thread

to ronald... screw the dvd. you don't need it. just download the album from a torrent or something. they re-worked "pu****" for that, and i gotta say, it's definitely in my top 5 tool songs for sure, particularly the last 10 seconRAB or so.

I've never heard Tool but you guys have all convinced me to check them out. Thanks for all the recommendations and suggestions.

Well, all the previous times Tool made the effort to come to Australia were dates within 1 year before or after album releases, so I'm hoping it's less than 2 years away...

I don't know if I can agree with that, but the transition between "Lateralus", "Disposition" always gives me the chills.

I bet you went forum jumping just so you could find a thread on Tool and say that. I found it funny the first time I heard someone make that joke, and it got annoying pretty quickly after that.

I completely agree. It's definitely their most progressive stage. Their earlier stuff is very angry and hostile, but I loved it, too. Even 10,000 Days is more spiritual than their earlier work. I wouldn't mind seeing them turning it up a little bit. Though all their albums are pretty heavy, I miss the straight-up angry stuff. I want loudness and screaming. I'm pretty spiritual and enjoy the softer side of Maynard's voice, but it's just not quite the same. He is overrated, anyway. The mastermind behind Tool is Adam Jones. It's all very apparent in the Revolver Magazine's Tool edition interview.

Jones is a magnificent guitarist, and my favourite meraber of Tool. A side project from him would be awesome! Too bad he's too busy with his art and stuff.

I recently rediscovered a song by Tool called "Reflection". I didn't really get the lyric back when I first heard it about 4-5 months after Lateralus was released, but I find it very relatable now. Let me say before I paste it that i don't intend copyright infringement or anything, not that it should matter either way. Ok, Here goes:

I find that I have come curiously close to the end, now.
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole.
Defeated I conceded; move closer.
I may find comfort here.
I may find peace within the emptiness - how pitiful.
It's calling me.
It's calling me.
It's calling me.
It's calling me.

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping,
the moon tells me a secret, a confidant.
"As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own.
A million light reflections pass over me."
The source is bright and endless, she
resuscitates the hopeless
Without her we are lifeless satellites drifting.

And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't want to peer down here, serving my narcissism,
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late.
I pray the light lifts me out before I hide away.
before I pine away.
before I pine away.
before I pine away.

So crucify the ego
before it's far too late
to leave behind this place so
negative and blind and cynical.

And you will come to find that we are all one mind
capable of all that's imagined, and all conceivable.

Just let the light touch you,
just let the worRAB spill through,
just let them pass right through,
bringing out our hope and reason.

Before we pine away.
Before we pine away.
Before we pine away.
Before we pine away.

 This is probably true. Speculation says it'll be released within the next year or two, but Maynard's such a pompous twat, I wouldn't doubt your estimate.

Alex Grey's art and imagary is a big part of the "Tool Experiance"

Love that they put the thought and money into their packaging.

They're all essential, but you're correct. Tool with another frontman could be nearly as great, possibly even better if the guy fit perfectly like Maynard, but had more ability.

Danny is irreplaceable, there isn't a drummer that plays with his power and creativity around... at least not that I've heard. I've heard faster and more technical drummers(though that's picking at straws, as Danny's nearly a virtuoso technically), but none with that grooving, powerful feel that he produces and certainly none who are as brilliant creatively. Tool's percussion segments are out of this world.

Adam's riffmastery and art direction is right up there. Justin is one of the cleanest bassists around as well.

Unbelievable band, best in the last 20 years IMO.

I can see how everyone decided to disagree with me...I guess I wasn't clear enough in my post. The fact that Lateralus is cold and unfeeling with 10000 Days is the opposite is pretty much exactly my point. They feel like they go together. 10000 Days is Lateralus II for that exact reason, they cover two sides of one coin.

I'm sure I'll still be alone in this opinion, but does anyone else see what I mean?
